He was in it to save his skin, post Kargil, he felt increasingly under threat. And rightly so for the debacle and deaths he caused. So he and his comrades removed an elected leader and imprisoned him, suspended both constitution and the assembly, jailed judges that did not side with him. Forced judges to swear oaths to his liking and not the constitutional oath they take in Pakistan and any civilised nation. Broke his own oath as a member of the armed forces, and committed high treason against both the constitution and the republic.

How he still has the stomach to defend his atrocious record is beyond my comprehension.

His idiocy led to the deaths of our regulars in Kargil, the diminishment of our diplomatic and international image. It also damaged the Kashmir cause massively. And he then went further like the shameless villain he is in order to save himself from possible court martial or other proceedings. Shame on him.

Exactly, Nawaz was terrible but Musharaff basically bowed down to the Americans and handed Pakistan its worse ever decade of history 2000-2010, and even today we're still having to put out the fires that he started.

If musharraf didn't accept or Join US war or bowed down then Punjab and Kashmir could be the part of Endia, KPK could be part of Greater Pukhtunistan/Afghanistan. Baluchistan could be an Independent country. Can't say about Sindh whether they join Endia or whatever and Karachi could be a country like Singapore.
Secondly its not only Musharraf Decision but it was all Core Commanders, Bureaucracy, Intelligentsia ruling politicians decision. I am laughing at the people who are claiming that we could escape from US War by not following US, we couldn't even save Bangladesh, can't even capture Jammu & Kashmir after the abrogation of article 370, since 18 years has passed and Afghanistan is still a mess and US is still looking for targets. Musharraf has many flaws, commit many mistakes but there was no way to escape US anger and war.
