Quick question, do you not believe that the same card makers and gift wrappers and so on that profit from valentines also look to do the same from Eid?

More importantly, somehow stopping valentines wont kill off infatuations, love or affairs or make people stop

That is something going on since forever, only the means for it changed.

A better way is pushing against one's own social circle against this day- don't need valentines to celebrate the holidays idea of love. All it does is give the many single guys here green eyes and green faces where they end up coming with all sorts of related and unrelated theories.

i agree, in today's world everything is about commercialism. I have no problem with valentines day if people keep it to themselves, i mean there is nothing wrong with giving gifts to your wife (im not married) or your mother or sister, but it is wrong to openly display your "love" to show off because it is inappropriate according to Pakistani society. Plus, why do people give gifts to their girlfriends only on valentines day, don't they love their mothers and sisters too? I don't support boyfriend/girlfriend culture, its better to get married if a person can't control his/her 'jawani'.

its mostly celebrated quietly among couples not with fireworks or wild parties.. although some part of the world do have some events.. what did you expect? a parade?
its not banned in UK.. what brits do is upto them.. nobody is suggesting pakistanis MUST celebrate it..

Believe it or not. Basant is good riddance as well. Another crappy day which costs people their lives. Also, Basant is a Hindu tradition and festival. We have imported this crap like so many other things from across the border. I say good riddance.

Festivals are not an issue, its when they conflict with or create actual social ills that Shariat instructs to ignore them.

Alcohol can and is freely purchased from all over F-6/7/8 & 10 in Islamabad, Areas in Y block DHA and countless other effluent neighborhoods in Lahore and Karachi.

When the law cannot be imposed for most that earn above 100k rupees a month & have connections, and when people have zero interest in following it; then your laws are worth less than the door to broken overflowing toilet in chichwatni.

The entire nation is a joke in that sense, "ab inn dehshat gardi ke waqiyat ki ijazat nahin di jayegi"

We lack common sense. We don't like to take the middle ground which we should. A ban doesn't serve a purpose. Most Pakistanis are smart enough to know that Valentine's Day adds nothing to our daily lives. We should just apply common sense and ignore it. Banning an entire thing just breeds unnecessary curiosity. Wouldn't this time be better served if a poor man got justice? We got our priorities wrong. Above all the ban is meant to score points. It is just like how our politicians behave by handing out verdicts and scoring political points at each other's expense. It is not a sincere move. I'm all for preserving our own culture, language etc. We need more nationalism in Pakistan. More of our own traditions and celebrations including religious festivities. Just not by applying simplistic bans which don't add anything substantial.

Great move by the High Court. I am glad to see that Pakistan is finally coming back to its senses and I hope that soon enough, we will ban all un Islamic activities.

Other thing is IHC is higher than SC? I mean all provinces have their own High courts did they follow the IHC?

It is hardly anything to do with sexual desires as getting married is the WORST solution to keep a raging libido under control. Probably why cases of extra martial affairs in our society are still fairly high even now as they come to light more and more

The issue of male female attraction and relationships goes beyond cards or the letters. The prescription in Islam is NOT marriage for it FYI- it is namaz; that prevents you from committing sin. A true routine of namaz will eventually control the desire for sexual acts.

But we dither, the issue is the uselessness of wasting our energies on semantics when we cannot even take an openly corrupt ex president and a current one to court and win
It has to do with open preaching of hatred within all sects and most Pakistanis willingly lapping it up to divert attention from these other frustrations of a non functioning state and society

Yes the move was pointless and backwards there is no point in banning something just few urban folks do in the age of internet it just makes you look like a goof ball

You are right and i agree, but don't forget if a person talks about Namaz or religion here we are labeled as Maulvis or Mullahs.

This is not complicated. This is not rocket science.

Basant is undoubtedly a Hindu tradition and you know it. I'm not a fan of this Hindu festival, but feel free to differ. It has been imported from India. There is no denying this. Just because people in Punjab have practiced this festivity for a long period doesn't mean that we should ignore its roots. Having said that, Basant is at least better than crappy festivities like Valentine's Day. The people are free to celebrate whatever they like. For the record, I'm just expressing my own opinion. Perhaps I'm too much of a nationalist in your perception, but this is my conduct and these are my personal views.

My other real beef with Basant is kite flying which claims scores of innocent lives. It is crazy. The ban is fully understandable from my perspective. What good is a festival when you end up with dead kids and youngsters?
