US will not fight a war with us. They invade and fight everyone else except for China, Iran, Russia, and North Korea. Have you noticed? USA does not delay for a single day against weak enemies numbering dozens. But even China fortify islands and Russia completely take Crimea and invade Georgia, USA did not go to war.

The guys here thinking the US Navy can win easily against PLAN and PLAAF that is so funny. How do you know? You don't know anything much about US Navy abilities and much less about Chinese Airforce and Navy abilities. If USA can easily beat China in a war like you said, why they hesitating? They invented all the reasons already and they never hesitate against other weak opponents. Now they try trade war. Who has the real ability here in a real war? China is playing in own backyard and USA once carriers sunk which is easy and once their nearby bases all bombed, even if F-22 and F-35 are impossible to shoot down then they will run out of fuel once they run out of the only missiles and bombs they carry. This is just China using rocket and intermediate and short range missiles. If add PLAN and PLAAF, USA dead as Soviet Union and will lose most of their military. If they also use ballistic missiles, then China will just go all in and use nuclear. So USA find they can only play this game another way, trade war.

In contested waters, there is no possible way to photograph the fleet, so here is an alternative way to show how a carrier fleet actually arrayed itself...

The distance between Richmond and Baltimore, or the locations of two aircraft carriers represented above, is 150 miles. Literally out of sight of each other. Then there are airborne assets like AWACS and CAP. Then there is a sub lurking below. But seven Chinese ships managed to get around these perimeters.

I don't believe this happened either and Chinese government never said this. So maybe just let people who believe it go believe it. Whatever happens USA will not fight China directly. Since 1980s people keep thinking and dreaming about this but it just will not happen. Reagan was safe and China will not fire the first shot at USA because it gives them good reason for a war. The carrier's escort ships and submarines are not always so close to carrier and usually quite far away but like Gambit says it's really impossible they will let Chinese ships so close to the carrier unless they want it to do something like finding certain information. Otherwise even in peace time they will not allow so many Chinese ships close to carrier.

One thing I suspect is definitely true about war fighting is USA military has better methods and way of fighting. Maybe they train as much as Chinese military but I think they will train in a smarter way. There are too many old fashioned and useless or wasteful things we practice in China and our strategy and military thinking is too outdated. Our training feels like it is similar. So much effort maybe but not using time and resources as smart.

Even with equal material and number, I think USA can beat China but time can change this and for sure USA fighting China means bloody loss for all side even if no nuclear forces used which is impossible.
