This news is so refreshing but I hope Vietnam will confront the Americans just like what they did during the Vietnam War.

Ahh DDG-56. The ole girl’ lost her way. Luckily it’s not a repeat of ‘17. The South China Sea / strait of malacca area doesn’t seem to be an area that gives the boat good memories. Maybe bad mojo being in the general area considering the namesake. She also traded some side eye at the Russkies last month. Doesn’t look like she wants to make any friends on this pacific cruise. ;) There’s always next year under Biden.

No need to answer @Viva_Viet as usual he is trolling
His spirits has been destroyed by this forum, his destination is nerve disorder hospital, why do you try to save him?
A guy prepare water and food for American ship, but the ship alternatively go for challenging their territory claim. In the whole history, just native Indian and Vietnamese make the records.

SOUTH CHINA SEA - On December 24, USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) asserted navigational rights and freedoms near Vietnam in the vicinity of the Con Dao Islands in the South China Sea. The ship conducted normal operations within Vietnam's claimed territorial seas to challenge excessive maritime claims and preserve access and navigational freedoms consistent with international law.

The Freedom of Navigation Operation (FONOPS) is a operation that US/NATO military vessels passing through territorial seas claimed by other nations without the need to obtain official allowance from that nation.
Vietnam is of the asian countries targeted in FONOPS.
7th Fleet also addressed it will keep the routine to challenge the "excessive maritime claim".
As foreign news agencies and observers reported, the Viet government has being trying to mute this information from spreading domestically.

I think the US wants to show they treat everybody equal. We never claim the seas belong to us because there was a story of an eunuch.
Interesting about this unknown island though. Back in the French period then the US, it was used a prison island. Most inmates never returned to the mainland. The most brutal prisons were there.

If this was a jail for political prisoners, I guess the most patriotic Vietnamese were jailed there once.
