US would destroy Taiwan's semiconductor factories rather than letting them fall into China's hands, a former national security adviser says

LOL.

The island is NOT for USA or China to "hold". It belongs to the Taiwanese people. :D

The fact remains that island is recognized as a part of China which the US is "holding" under a puppet state. This is exactly why the US treating assets on the island as its own to be destroyed when necessary without needing permission from anyone else.

Puppet government? Please do not forget the history:

The government in Taiwan is directly the continuous government that was deposed by communist rebels in 1949, and that civil war has not finished yet. It lays claim to be the rightful government of all of China. Doesn't sound much like a puppet of anybody, to me. :D

USA is not acting like anything. It is Taiwanese government with the above history that chooses to keep USA as its friend to help it in case the communist rebels on the mainland attack their home.

Taiwanese are not caucasians.

If China attacks Australia, then it makes sense for NATO to get involved.

Fellow Asian nations like Japan, South Korea, Philippnes can help Taiwan if they want.

Being Caucasian, or not, or being a NATO member, or not, has nothing to do with this issue. At all. Useless wattabootery. Please see above for the real issue.

First of all, it is a dumb article.

If war broke out between China and Taiwan, TSMC, along with everything, will be destroyed by China, you cannot fight a war in Taiwan without widespread destruction, you cannot just spare TSMC or it's location because you want to keep it. It's either a peaceful reunion, or a full on war, there are no in between.

Second, TSMC will probably destroying the plant themselves if they were under hostile action. That's a strategic target for both side, pretty sure if war broke out that is not acceptable for the Taiwanese to have this target fallen into Chinese hand if that happens. Again, if this is an acceptable loss, then you won't be having a war.

And finally, the destruction of TSMC is not to held China hostage, it's to hold the west hostage. Taiwan will not transfer enough of their tech overseas to meet the supply of semi conductor, which mean if war broke out, there will be a chip shortage, and while this does not affect China, it will seriously affect the west, and hence the West would want to do everything they can to not have that happen, because when it happen, it will make the Chip shortage in 2020a child play, it will not just be you don't have enough PS5 or X-Boxes to go around, if that happen, everything runs on chip will be in shortage, from microwave to car. As long as this threat is there, the west will do anything to help Taiwan. This is what Taiwan is banking on.

The whole article intended purpose was to bait the wumaos out yet again and have them agony aunt whine....and then make an example out of them with minimal effort and fuss.

PDF its very clear who the wumaos are by now (and that they are stuck here with their complex and it being indulged to the nth degree)....., but other areas (that matter more than SM agony aunt).... they (and their lackeys) are disguised far more and it matters far more to expose them now than later....as we dont want them hanging around.

You are describing exactly what a puppet government is, one that has to rely on foreign power to keep itself in power, or it would have long been finished in a civil war.

I am describing historical facts that show that Taiwan's stance of being the rightful government to all of China instead of the communists rebels has merit. The civil war in China is still unfinished, and hence the outcome not established.

Based on the ROC law, all 1.4 billion Chinese from PRC are auntomatically also citizens of ROC, So people in Taiwan are just like people in Beijing, Shanghai, have no right to decide the status of the lands , meaning Chinese cities and provinces they live in.

Based on ROC law, it is also the only legal government of ALL of China. Let us not pick and choose which law to respect and which to not. :D

This law also works in PRC, so it's a mutual law work on both sides, a good common ground.

. . .
It's up to 1.4 billion Chinese citizens to decide, none of your business.

Some of those Chinese living in Taiwan can ask their friends to help them if they are attacked by the communist rebels from the mainland. And USA will help them when asked to do so. :D

USA? how? like they did in 1979? Russia just downed a US drone, what US did about it?

What about the Taiwanese citizens? Don't they get a say? :P
They surely do, like how much Beijingers can say about Beijing and Shanghaiese about Shanghai.

. .
Then respect them and leave them alone :)
We are all Chinese citizens based on the laws from both sides, leave who alone? we are the same people, who are you? from teeny tiny Greece, lol... I guess I need a microscope
