about trainers, what is to say that America won't the train pilots themselves in the US or a nearby base with trainer aircraft. or even India could train them.

Wouldn't training in India, on dissimmilar platforms be an operational blunder unless, it commits to donate Tejas or other IAF jets, maybe some Rafales on lease?

That and building support and logistical infrastructure is a multi billion dollar exercise. Since the US has a very bad track record with looking after countries it pulls out of,is India going to provide those billions needed for buying keeping those jets operational on annual basis?

LOL,India's support is not needed as USA will give 4 bil a year for defence purpose,apart from Afghan's own defence budget.and tell me,how much it'll cost for few subsonic trainer jets(like Hawk or cheaper trainers)??is that too much for them to bear??once,Afghan had mighty Airforce,better than even Pakistan I might say.it's not that much tough to retain an small but effective airforce.and those 20 jets are on USA's tab..India will train them and if needed,will equip them.nothing else.India can't/willn't provide multi billion charity fund each year.but millions of dollars for infrastructrues(and effectively reducing their cost on infra so that they can use that fund on other sectors,like defence),well,we can do that.

There is no such thing as free lunch ??really ??700 billion $ vanished in thin air and you would expect country like US can pump in 100 billion more just to have a foothold in the form of bases in Afghanistan.

And by the way Afghanistan has very rich mineral resource in addition to opium cultivation.

And regarding me assuming things, everyone is just being speculative , we can agree to disagree.

The money didn't vanish, most of it was wasted on dumb projects and the rest was lost to corruption, it's not the same thing.

The US is getting 9 bases in Afghanistan, for 700 billion dollars in such a strategic place, that's pretty much worth it.

1.Afghanistan is getting top of the line hardware in each class(like they're buying Mi-17V5,not some old helos,and its in bulk number)

2.they are barely buying 2nd hand equipment.

3.American jets cost similar like new Russian jets

4.If America buy american jets for Afghanistan,they'll get another client(economic perspective).

We will see how much money the US actually gives to Afghanistan and for how long?

Afghanistan had a mighty air force but it was provided by its then ally the USSR. We shot down half of that mighty air force one way or another, some defected with their air crafts to Pakistan.

We are so evil, wouldn't you save your ally from this persistent evil?-If you, cant provide jets and money, you sure can spare some MKIs and Rafales to be stationed in Afghanistan to protect its skies?

You cant just leave your ally, you have to do something!
If you don't do something to save Afghanistan from Pakistan, other nations who are waiting in a line on the summerheat to ally with your rapidly rising superpower country maybe disappointed and may just instead ally with the evil red communist Chinese....India should never let that happen.

Afghanistan is getting equipment it needs and can maintain itself. Mi-17s are relatively easy and cheap to maintain. The Afghans are getting what they can afford, a fighter plane is not the same thing as a helicopter. If it gets a fighter, they'll either get second hand fighters, or newly built (relatively) "primitive" fighters.

Russian jets actually are cheaper than American jets, they just cost a bit more to maintain in the long run. If America were to give American fighters to Afghanistan, they'd have to put up a bunch of requirement, such as when it can be used and guarantees that foreign nations (such as China or Russia) don't get their hands on the fighters.

bonds mean very little when your life is in danger, as well as your family's.

A lot of people, including many people in the government have a plan B, which basically means that they're planning on leaving Afghanistan as soon as the Americans withdraw and the Taliban seem like they've gained momentum.
