US threatens India with sanctions over Iranian Oil

Oh man u just made me laugh that was a good one, IPI gas pipeline was a good example India succumb to US pressure and went in black hole. U and I can fight all day and Night long but India and other Nations do bow down to US if they see the light of $$$$$$$$$

i know u can fight out all night but if u try to fight out with logic, i m sure the argument wont last much. :)

the point is whatever deals india refuse NEEDNT be always out of some random pressure.

IPI pipeline was rejected coz of price and security issues which i am sure whole of PDF but you knows. India made it very clear that they will pay after the product reaches indian borders and there were certian issues in case of hostility between the arch rivals. I m sure u never cared to look into real story, hence just trying to educate u.

Now for the counter argument, India chose Rafale n Typhoon against boeing and Lockheed which even Obama came to India and andorsed. such was the importance of this 10bn deal. Now please fit your logic for this FACT. :) :) :)

hope india pulls out of iran or US sanctions india. this way china can gain more influence in iran. more cheap oil for china.

its great news for china that india is america's puppet.

America has not friends really .. cuz it doesn't care to have friends it only looks for its interest and wether we like it or not what will happen is whats it wants simply and that applies to any nation in the world simply either get with the program or get ready to feel the pain US policy simply.

.
We are not strangers to sanctions, If US wants to ignore 500 million potential customers, then they can go forward.

Guys Instead fighting in this forum... chill....

This will not effect Indian banking facility.... US Banks are now more dependent on Indian and Chinese Banks....

And By June 28 Iran will have Nuclear Bomb or they will be a WAR as per Defense secretary (Leon Panetta).

It is upto us what we support WAR or Nuclear Iran

i am neither in favour of IRAN possesing a N bomb or a war between US and IRAN, if IRAN aims to get nuclear power for energy needs, its the countries right to go for it and INDIA has to support their energy needs.
as far as I see, Iran is a Gas and Oil rich country and is not required go for Nuclear energy, they can invest in alternative power R & D. it seems that IRAN wants to be a bully boy or wants to maintain a nuclear standoff with Isreal.

Oh rubbish. The USA will not sanction India and usually American sanctions don't dent the Indian economy - they did those sanctions in 1998 too. India is not China - it does not toe the American line all the time.

It seems our green neighbours on our west are wondering... why aren't we pissing in our pants like they did after US ultimatum pro 9/11 ?

Reports on threat of sanctions on India highly speculative:US

WASHINGTON: Amid reports claiming America has threatened India with sanctions if it does not reduce its Iranian oil imports by June end, US officials on Friday said Washington and New Delhi are having "productive conversations" on the issue and termed the reports as "highly speculative".

"Recent headlines on India and Iran have been highly speculative," a US Government official said, referring to the reports appearing in a section of American media.

The report quoted Obama administration officials as saying that India has failed to reduce its purchases of Iranian oil, and if it doesn't do so, President Barack Obama may be forced to impose sanctions on New Delhi.

"No decisions have been made and we continue to have productive conversations with India on this important issue, both in New Delhi and in Washington," the official said.

"We welcome statements from Indian officials that India is seeking to diversify its crude oil sourcing and encourage this positive trend," the official said.

In response to a query, sources in the Indian embassy indicated that US officials have reached out to them to convey that the news reports were "not an accurate reflection" of the US policy.

They remain focused on consultation and discussions with the Government of India on this issue, sources said.

Under the Iran sanctions legislation, a country is subject to American sanctions if it doesn't make a "significant" reduction in its Iranian crude oil purchases during the first half of this year.

India imports 12 per cent of its oil from Iran, which is No 2 producer in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.

We do not give a damn what the US does, if they do any thing stupid, they sure will know that its a harm to their own a$$.
INDIA needs oil and energy for its growth and IRAN sell what we need. if US has a problem with IRAN they can sit with the IRANIANS and sort out, rather trying to mess up others relations is a fools work.

sir, you would first clear the ‘bottom line’ concept of Republic of India and every effort would be made to defend the concept behind the ‘Independence’ of India, the nation:pop:. That is, India follows ‘International Laws’ not the laws of US . India is not the country like China who use Iran to bargain with US and then they kick Iran for better benefits. and every effort would be made by the congress government to prove that they follow International laws and they aren’t slave of US who follow US’s laws. Congress government must prove that they stand on the ‘bottom line’ concept of Independence of India. :agree:

US hints at sanctions against India over Iran oil import

While the Indian government has an excellent record of enforcing United Nations sanctions on Iran, India has objected to unilateral US sanctions.

“We abide scrupulously by UN authorised sanctions,” Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Syed Akbaruddin said in a phone interview. While restrictions imposed by individual countries “have an impact on commercial interaction, from a legal perspective there is nothing that binds us to follow them”.

The latest shipping data shows India and South Korea sharply increased oil purchases from Iran in January, according to a report released on Wednesday by the International Energy Agency in Paris. China halved its imports from Iran, from 550,000 barrels a day in December to 275,000 barrels a day in January
