At a time when China indulges in industrial espionage against US military and industrial complex and continues to bleed US dry of its far more valuable intellectual properties and trade secrets even as we speak, you have got to believe that this kind of exercises not only takes the focus away from where it is truly needed but also has the potential to be counter-productive in making once-friendly entities turn hostile. That would be really unfortunate.

Intellectual property is not a finite resource, nor is it easily replicated.

It was a very embarrassing few months for US diplomats, but everything that Snowden can still leak, the world's governments have been informed of by now. There is something to say about the strategy of getting ahead of bad news so that you can frame it in the way you desire, instead of waiting to react.

The only wild-card is that when the information does leak, it embarrasses or puts local politicians under pressure to pretend to be outraged and promise action. At least until the news-cycle shifts and there is something more serious on their plate.

Along with all these I am sure NSA will be putting a more 'Snowden'-proof system in place . America has discovered the value of snooping. And its not going to Stop whatever the public stance.

The reasons the MIC and governments want to protect classified information is not because someone obtaining designs on an advanced warhead means they can produce a fewer amount. Information that can be stolen via electronic means, is in fact effectively infinite.

What the MIC wants to protect are the advantages gained by new technology or secret capabilities, not the 1s and 0s that form the data itself.
