US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo meets PM Imran in Islamabad

It is not in the best interest of US that Pakistan would become the internally stable growing economy and on the path to progress. Lesson learned from past history of transactional relationship makes enough self-evident, When they need Pakistan, they throw money with conditions, when they don't need us then they put on us the sanctions. They want to see us remain weak and dependent so that it can be forced into compliance with the transactional relationship. Past Pakistani rulers made sure Pakistan remains weak and indebted in compliance with US wishes. Ik and Pak Army has rocked the US boat, he will defend national interest at all cost.

The US needs Pakistan either way, but It needs to be reminded it Needs Pakistan. The US needs a win in Afghanistan, and is some kind framework can be laid out that respects Pakistan's Interests (Durand line, No threat from Afghanistan from new government, Stable power sharing agreement between all parties in Afghanistan, no Indian Interference from Afghanistan, Help in Starting to resolve the Kashmir Issue, etc.) Then Pakistan can try to get the rebels to come to the table. If negotiations start before 2020, it will be a solid achievement for the Apprentice star to use when running for re-election. Pakistan just needs to show hope but with a realistic framework of what it will take to get Pakistan's Cooperation.

But this "we'll help you with Afghanistan if you help us with Kashmir" approach may not work for many reasons, and it may not be up to USA to keep any other interested party, be it India, or someone else, out of Afghanistan.

A. USA cannot help in Kashmir.
B. Throwing India out of Afghanistan is matter of a week if USA don't gives India cover.

I just went through the body language. IK completely bowled over Pompeo. Dunford looked annoyed. IK was in his element. Exuding confidence and persona. Total control over his space.

My opinion whatever USA had planned, Pakistan will come out better after this meeting then when Pompeo left Washington.

Talks, words, press releases & all claims of both sides aside; the world has seen the way Pompeo & Co. was received upon arrival. Analysts observes and express the same that compare the way Pakistanis used to welcome friends especially in Pakistan. This gesture alone was enough to deliver the message that whatever "You" had on your mind, "you" planned to come and speak as such or even "you" have some stunts to show; let's sit and talk on at-par level. The welcome at airport is all that one can conclude about current state of affairs as well as what Pakistan said and what we really want.

Look at Dunford that had some other things on mind yet caught by surprise & being boxed aside. Pompeo reaction is totally different presenting pure diplomatic approach & having a good time in friendly environment. Dunford thought will be dictating, as briefed and seems used to read a lot of Trump news, found himself having no room to act like a champ or dictate at all.
