The US is partially lifting its ban on the sale of lethal weapons to Vietnam, nearly 40 years after the Vietnam War ended.
It follows talks between US Secretary of State John Kerry and the Vietnamese foreign minister in Washington.
The State Department says it’s to help the country with maritime security in the South China Sea, amid growing naval challenges from China.
It added that a further easing of the embargo will depend on further progress by Vietnam on human rights.
