US panel calls for Pakistan membership of G-20

Rafi you are right , If U.S and the world is supporting Pakistan , it is because of the stretigic importance , present economy and the near future economic potential of pakistan. At present we are fighting a war against terrorism , Even in this scenerio , our GDP is growing at about 4% rate , I am sure we have a lot more potential , As the things are going on in (US pulling back from Afghanistan), it would not be very difficult to maintain an average of 8% raise in GDP. We had an average GDP growth of 7 to 8% from2002 to 2008.

Even if the U.S pulls back from Afghanistan today, we still have our own demons to conquer, prosperity will only return to Pakistan once terrorism, ignorance, bigotry and "Danda Culture" are good and buried.
If we get rid of these ills of the society, there is nowhere but up for our country, we have maintained THE WORLD'S HIGHEST GROWTH RATE GDP(PPP) for much of our history and we CAN do it again but first, we have to revive the qualities on which the basis of this nation were laid, UNITY, FAITH and DISCIPLINE.

.
I absolutely agree with you but I just wanted to make it a point to the poster I had replied to, I would personally say that Pakistan is not ready for being a part of G-20, first we have to be worthy enough to be declared a BRIC nation and stop being an aid driven economy(with the exception of right now, since we took a lot of damage from the floods). India on the other hand does hold the credentials essential for G-20 membership and I for one would support a chance for India to be made a part of G-20(but not the UNSC seat mind you, I have reservations against that). As for Japan and Germany, apart from their checkered pasts, they are now playing a very positive role on the global stage, Japan is an innovative, electronics giant and Germany is the production capital of europe, also a major contributer to the mission in Afghanistan. So in my humble opinion, they also do hold potential.
My dear , the security council is suppose to work for the world peace , There are about1.5 billion muslims existing in the world , major disputes are in the largely muslim populated areas , What India can do about worlds peace ? I think a representative group of leading muslim countries should get permanent seat in UNSC. This can play a positive role in worlds peace , rather then the India.

Agreed my brother . Lets work for our home land and make it one of the greatest countries of the world. :pakistan::pakistan::pakistan:

That's what I said, that I don't believe India should get a permanent UNSC.

There is one more thing to consider here, which the panel who suggested would have surely taken notice of since they are not ammeters or web readers instead proper economists. And also don't suffer blindness from anti-Pakistan sentiments.

Pakistan's economy is going down but thats not a natural trend its because we are hit by disasters terrorism and the current flooding!!!

If we remove these two factors then the natural potential of Pakistan based on its geographic location(silk route), opportunities available, talent, skills & the financial status of most of its population would determine a different trend, which is what we could see from 2001-07, specially of 2007 touching a gdp growth of 7% and it was specualted to even go as high as 8.6% for 2009.

So, just as common sense says the maximum blow of floods will be suffered in the following year and after that economy will resume back at the normal pace, also the later years will show a better growth in agriculture sector because the after effects of flood would result in increased fertility for 1/5 of the agricultural land (more production, reduced costs of food basket & more exports).

Also, if not today then tomorrow this war on terrorism has to somehow end, and then Pakistan will be in a lot better shape, it will have even better conditions than 2001-07.

And by then Pakistan's electricity production would also be sufficient because of on going projects, along with the effects of on going projects for reviving economy.

And Pakistan's growth was speculated at 4.5-5% for the next year before the floods.

5% growth for a country at WAR!!!;)

So Pakistan proves to be a pretty good contender for being part of G20 + some privileges for a country fighting on WOT for west!. While other countries from 21st-25th are at peace and the growth they enjoy is at the peak of either their potential or will.

Moral of the story: For this suggestion just don't consider what we are today, have a look at us 2 years back and our immediate future.

There is a difference between artificial and natural fall & rise of countries

Same as if india joins the security council, a country with 80% 800 million people living on half a dollar a day. And with dozens of insurgencies and 1 third of indian states with Naxalite insurrection, what stability???? lol:disagree:

Even then we are right now the 4 largest Economy. And Future holds great promise for us , so why not Security council seat.

According to the WB, GDP PPP, Pakistan is the 26th biggest economy in the world. Thanks SMC br

26 largest in world that too after liberal help from West and Saudi and not to forget Chinese. Even then u cannot be the part of G20.

Mind you, India has a greater foreign debt to repay than Pakistan. And America has the largest, so by that standard, no one should be in the G-20 ! Maybe Bhutan, I don't think they have any foreign debt........

Public debt to GDP ratio of India is far better than most of western countries only country that can compete us is China because they tend to save more than 60% of their earning.
Just because your debt to GDP ratio is good doesn't mean that u are any better. According to you a beggar on street having no debt on the street better than a rich man who has some debt.
