BD already deployed drone in the border and India can gain some experience from that. Predator is a good buy anyways but ineffective against might China or Pakistan.

since when UNARMED drones used to challenge the 'might' of other countries,and which drone B.D deployed at the border is it rohingya drone?

Strike drone is already underdevelopment .Rustom 2 will be better than all of this after development.
Now we need to experience US tech .So a small deal will be good.

there are so many Indians working as scientist and engineers in US and developing some world class technology platform, so not a big deal, it ours only and should be termed as indigenous

It is for surveillance.

Although I am not in favour of it. Would prefer to stick to Herons for surveillance while using Rustom-H to be used as an armed drone.

BTW, drones can never become a tool of power against countries with standing military. This is including your country as well. They are good for CAS, terror hunting, intel-gathering; the very purpose they were created for.

Really ? As far as i know, Israel is the only country that messes up with F-16s. They even Installed Refueling probe to one of their Falcon in 80s, not to mention the missile countermeasure systems and they also alter the source code. Recently they upgraded the Apaches without the US permission.

Between the Heron and Rustom-2 (underdevelopment) the IAF/IA don't need another MALE UAV, that too unarmed. The Rustom-2 is being produced with the Indian military in mind and will eventually be armed so this is the way to go.

The US has cleared any things for export to India in the past, not all of them India is interested in or goes on to purchase.

I don't like the idea of US built drones scurrying our border area. US can attach a backdoor to it and get all information about sensitive installation in our border.. Why can't we make a good one ourselves?
