US nod to export of Predator XP UAV to India

A perfect example is Afg and Pak Border...The US have deployed drones with much more sensitive equipment...it still didn't help at many occasions. Mountainous terrain are the most difficult and drones might not work all the time...
Right! They are not a panacea for all situations. Drones are of little use in thick jungle terrain.

India already operates Israeli drones... I dont think these xp's provide any extra or substantial capabilities over israeli drones...

.
These will be very dumbed down versions of the original predators because of the MTCR.
Shouldn't waste money and continue with development of Rustom.
Dude look as the larger picture . It's technology sharing for our Rustom 2 armed version . Remember how we got Nuclear sub technology from Russia ?

same as I mentioned above. These are gateway UAV for more future ones .

Predators which are offered are without the missiles due to international rules.

But is there rules which prevent us from arming them?o_O

.
Rejected by PAksitan years ago.... there are many others surveillance drones available in the market... Pakistan rejected because want armed one..

I don't think one can attach missiles with a screw driver.
You need source codes for that which can only be provided by OEM.

Perhaps India has been given source codes that would be a way to circumvent MTCR.

Yes .. you can mess with US systems without their permission... Nor is it so easy to arm unarmed UAVs.

There was a good reason why Pak didn't buy these.

We are talking about with permission of putting up Indian needed things on a US system. Like western avionics in a russian fighter kinda thing.

US didn't even allow Israel to change systems on its F-16s.. N no it's not as simple as opening in up n patching a few wires n boom...

I thought GoI was interested in Triton.

Global Hawk is for the navy, if this go through then IA will be using them

Triton is still under development and probably not for export for another decade or so۔۔۔US doesn't export the top of the line tech ..

Northrop Grumman had already offered this UAV to IN in 2011, and Australia and Germany are planning to induct them. if IN goes for it then we'll see them with IN by 2020 or before

They should focus on enhancing the Rustom version and arming it with missiles rather than going for it.

Surely, it may not be as good as this but that is how India will evolve in military platforms. The MALE version of Rustom armed with missiles would mean that we have enough autonomy to deploy them against terror groups operating both at the border, providing crucial air cover for our BSF and Army units, as well as monitoring and targeting Naxalites, rather than having to send in boots on ground.

That's why personally speaking, this is not a good deal.

Really ? As far as i know, Israel is the only country that messes up with F-16s. They even Installed Refueling probe to one of their Falcon in 80s, not to mention the missile countermeasure systems and they also alter the source code. Recently they upgraded the Apaches without the US permission.

.
BD already deployed drone in the border and India can gain some experience from that. Predator is a good buy anyways but ineffective against mighty China or Pakistan.
