No need to invade again. We know now that it is useless to raise Afghanistan out of the 7th century. But, assuming this report is true, if we can find where Zawi was, we can find where the heads of the Taliban and drop a few bombs on them. It will cost US next to nothing and give our aircrews exercise.

Al Qaeda was very relevant till this incident.
The implications of this on Taliban are huge.
Al Qaeda still has many groups which pledged allegiance to it and it has many branches also, AQ it self pledged allegiance to Taliban so it’s very much still relevant. Just look at Africa in Mali or Somalia and you’ll see how relevant and powerful AQ affiliated groups are.

Its either:
1) Taliban was hosting a recognized “terrorist”
Or
2) Taliban was involved in the strike against him
It’s interesting to note that the area which the strike happened hosts many Haqqani network commanders. Haqqanis have open ties to AQ still and always had them. Haqqani vs Qandhari faction differences also exist. It could be some faction or some anti Haqqani high level leader in Taliban sold him out. Zawahiri being in kabul was probably known by Taliban leadership. This also ruined Talibans reputation in Jihadi circles and will give a massive boost to Daesh propaganda.
How will Taliban justify this to both international community and jihadi circles?

You’re right but , Taliban promised to not let Afghanistan become a safe haven for Terror organizations. Zawahiri being there was a Violation of Doha agreement.

Going against Taliban will only make things worse, cause if Taliban and ISIS join hands than we are looking a new wave of Terror attacks around the world, and than we are back to where we started, Taliban are loose canon let them run their country, they will be busy fighting ISIS and EX Govt who are trying to resist for a long time, I think USA learned their lesson that few misplaced bomb do more damage than it solves anything.

Accused of playing a role in plotting 9/11 attacks.
Accused of playing a role in USS Cole bombings.
Accused of playing a role in 1998 US Embassy bombings across two East African countries among many many anti-American things he is accused of doing. 224 lives perished.

Relevance to China:
A keen supporter of East Turkestan Movement, he praised the perpetrators after bombing of Chinese Embassy in Bishkek in 2016 that killed just the suicide bomber and no one else.

Relevance to Iran:
Supposedly conspired with Iran against UAE and Egyptian interests in Gulf, all the while bashing Iran in public because that’s the only way you can thrive in a mostly-Sunni Afghanistan.

The strike happened about three days ago and the Taliban stayed shush, no major news out of Afghanistan either which is surprising given this happened smack dab in middle of Kabul, makes me wonder how many strikes might go unreported altogether if stakeholders decide to do things covertly. Not like the Taliban can be vocal about it either because it only makes them look weak in front of their public.
