US has sharp words for China over Snowden

Hah, actually I'm from GuangZhou, so canto is my native tongue *high five*

In fact, I think all Chinese are happy about this result. Heck, even majority of American does, lol.

Maybe even the whole world likes this result too, since they were spying on the whole world. :P

.
Learn to read, he said his final destination is either Ecuador or Iceland.

We already went against American warnings by refusing to extradite him in the first place. We gave him exactly what he asked for, safe passage to his final destination. No point moving the goalposts when it is already done.

If he changes his mind and decides that he wants asylum in Russia or China then that can certainly be arranged.
And you should learn to think.

Why is Julian Assange been the UK Ecuadorian Embassy since Jun 2012? Ecuador HAVE NOT granted Assange asylum in Ecuador, only diplomatic protection in the UK. Snowden requested asylum but neither Ecuador nor Iceland have accepted him. Snowden knew, or at least highly confident that China would be too cowardly to shelter him. China have too much to lose in a diplomatic row with the US.

Look here...Unlike Assange, who was only a relay of information via wikileaks, Snowden is actually a betrayer of confidence, something that China understood very well. Snowden was not on the flight to Cuba probably because Cuba refused to give him a stopover, let alone to shelter him, because Cuba also understood very well what is Snowden. If Ecuador is Snowden's final goal, that may be because Iceland refused. Snowden is the proverbial hot potato. Too hot even for China.

.
Personally, I think it is entirely sensible for China/Hong Kong to have let Snowden leave. China didn't grant him asylum or set off a long bargaining drama. China merely let the man go on his way to be someone else's "problem" or "opportunity". China passed on the game. The Obama people look like babies to complain about happened in Hong Kong. If they had wanted Snowden so bad they should have activated our CIA cells in Hong Kong and rendered him to Gitmo. Of course to do THAT (behaving like George Bush) would have sent Obama's liberal base into apoplexy. They wanted China, and now Russia, to do their dirty work. Obama is a wimp.
Obama is an embarrassment to a strong US from day one of his administration. The embarrassment was made worse when he actually bowed to other leaders. But hey...As a democracy, we have no choice but to suffer fools occasionally.

.
Don't say Mortal Kombat, the lead character there is a Shaolin Monk called Liu Kang.

He would never go for that. :D

LOL, first America "warns" us not to refuse the Extradition of Snowden back to the USA.

That was duly ignored and we sent Snowden to where he wanted to go, Russia and then Ecuador.

Now we've ignored America's warnings already, you come up with some new imaginary goalpost that is purely hypothetical, after he already left.

I want Snowden back in America for a different reason. I believe that he is an American hero and we need him in the congress. And America need more Snowden who is not afraid to stand up to the intrusive American government.

America need to end the Bush-Obama regime. we need someone similar to Ron Paul. I like Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, or Mike Lee. Above all, my favorite is Justin Amash. We need to put one of those guys in charge of the white house. And if any of them is in charge, we will welcome home Snowden in a ticker tape parade down the broadway.

No. He won't go back to that country, a criminal nation doing dirty things to the world almost all the time.

...Let along he charged as a "criminal"

Fancy world.

America need to change. We need to put true patriotic Americans in charge instead of criminals such as Bush and Obama in charge. I supported Ron Paul in 2012. Its time to bring back Snowden, put him in congress. Its also time for Americans to elect people like Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee into the presidency.

America need to drop the charges, charge Obama and holder instead and bring Snowden back to this country as a hero.

The usa is stealing, intruding and hacking all computers, friends or foes alike, in the world and pretending they are the victims and the greatest angels. This is just sick! And god knows how much scientific researches, commerical secrets... have been stolen by NSA so as to benefit their own researches and industries!

. .
Ironically, just a year ago America refused to grant asylum to Wang Lijun in order to avoid a diplomatic incident with China.

Though to be fair, the Wang Lijun case had nothing at all to do with America.

Whereas Snowden's evidence of US hacking attacks most certainly involves China (and the rest of the world too). So I guess it is not really comparable.

He came to our consulate so it indeed had something to do with America. But since you guys refused to hand Snowden over. Well we will remember that next time.

.
Americans feel the same sting like in 1950 when PLA crossed the Yalu River and sent them on the longest military retreat in their nation's history

Seriously?

America has been whining non-stop about Chinese hacking these last few months, pretending to be the victim.

Then Snowden appears and shows up American hypocrisy, by revealing that it is actually America that has been hacking communications from the entire world!

Given that, I can't believe how anyone could expect us to extradite him.

"We are just not buying that this was a technical decision by a Hong Kong immigration official," Carney said

China rejects U.S. accusation on Snowden

BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- The United States' accusation against China on fugitive U.S. intelligence leaker Edward Snowden's departure from Hong Kong is groundless and China will not accept it, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

"The accusation that the U.S. side made against the Central Government of China fell short of proof. The Chinese side will absolutely not accept it," spokeswomen Hua Chunying told a daily news briefing.

"The U.S. side's doubt about the lawful operation by the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is totally unreasonable," she said.

Snowden, the target of a U.S. arrest warrant, left Hong Kong on Sunday aboard a flight and landed in Moscow.

The White House earlier called it "a deliberate choice by the (Chinese) government to release a fugitive despite a valid arrest warrant," and that decision "unquestionably" has a negative impact on the U.S.-China relationship.

Hua said China's stance has been clear and consistent that healthy and stable China-U.S. relations are in the interests of the two countries and their people and also conducive to peace, stability and development of the Asia-Pacific region and the rest of the world.

"We hope the U.S. side will work with China to earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries, strengthen dialogue and cooperation, manage and control disputes and conflicts and advance bilateral relations constantly," she said.

Commenting cyber security issues, Hua said China opposes any form of cyber attacks and the use of double standard.

Cyberspace needs cooperation and international rules, Hua said. She expressed the hope that relevant parties observe the spirit of mutual respect and trust, actively carry out dialogue and cooperation, properly resolve the issue of online security and jointly safeguard peace, security, openness and cooperation in cyberspace.

Hua said online security is an important topic in the China-U.S. dialogue, on which the two sides have actually maintain communication.

She said the U.S. side is fully aware of the principle stance of the Chinese side.

China and the United States have recently decided to set up a network panel within the framework of bilateral strategic and security dialogue.

"I believe the two sides will continue to have extensive communication and dialogue within the framework," Hua said.

Russian FM dismisses U.S. accusations over Snowden case as "groundless, unacceptable"

MOSCOW, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov dismissed on Tuesday the U.S. accusations over Edward Snowden as "groundless and unacceptable," saying the fugitive U.S. intelligence leaker did not cross border into Russia.

"We deem absolutely ungrounded and unacceptable the attempts we are witnessing to accuse the Russian side of violation of U.S. laws," Lavrov told a press conference after talks with his Algerian counterpart Murad Medelci.

"There are no legal grounds whatsoever for this behavior of U.S. officials," he said.

A White House spokesman said on Monday that the United States had asked Russia to extradite Snowden charged with espionage and theft of government property.

"I wish to say promptly that we have nothing to do with Snowden, his relations with the U.S. Department of Justice or his movements around the world," the minister said, adding "he picked his route on his own ... Snowden has not crossed the Russian border."

Snowden, 30, disclosed information on Washington's secretive surveillance programs that collect vast amounts of phone records and online data in the name of foreign intelligence.

He arrived at Moscow's Sheremetyevo international airport on Sunday from Hong Kong. Earlier media reports said he would take a flight to Havana on Monday, but he did not show up on the plane

US left helpless as Snowden takes flight

WASHINGTON: US threats that China and Russia face "consequences" if leaker Edward Snowden evades capture may prove just hot air, experts say, with Washington powerless in a game of cat-and-mouse.

Left red-faced after Snowden brazenly waltzed out of Hong Kong bound for Moscow at the weekend even after his passport was apparently canceled, US officials have angrily called on Russia to hand him over for trial.

President Barack Obama said Washington was using every legal channel to apprehend the former technician and the self-confessed source of explosive leaks detailing the extent of covert US phone and Internet surveillance.

Just two weeks after Obama cozied up with Chinese President Xi Jinping in a summit in California, White House spokesman Jay Carney lashed out at Beijing for letting Snowden go despite US extradition requests.

"We are just not buying that this was a technical decision by a Hong Kong immigration official," Carney said.

"This was a deliberate choice by the government to release a fugitive despite a valid arrest warrant, and that decision unquestionably has a negative impact on the US-China relationship."

On Monday, US Secretary of State John Kerry, who has branded Snowden a traitor, warned of consequences to US-Sino and US-Russian ties saying it was "deeply troubling" if requests for his extradition were ignored.

But in reality, experts say there is little that Washington can do to force Moscow to return Snowden or even to persuade Ecuador and Venezuela, both possible places of refuge, to deny him shelter.

"I am skeptical," acknowledged Michael O'Hanlon, director of research for foreign policy at the Brookings Institution, saying that "the United States will not have an interest in any kind of major retaliation."

While he told AFP he did not approve of Snowden's actions, he added: "I am not convinced this rises to a major security revelation or crisis and I am not convinced that Russia and China have done anything out of the ordinary with normal protocol."

With major international problems from Syria to Iran on the global agenda, the US might just be unwilling to see the Snowden affair explode into a full-blown diplomatic crisis.

US officials said Monday afternoon Snowden was believed to be still holed up in Moscow, as top officials including US ambassador to Moscow Michael McFaul and senior FBI leaders worked frantically to win his arrest.

"The fact that he is now in Moscow and did not get on the airplane for Cuba tells me that the old KGB officer -- now president of Russia, Putin -- is directing the show," said US Senator Bill Nelson.

Nelson added that he imagined that Vladimir Putin was probably "giving orders to milk him for every piece of information that he has."

"If he really doesn't have anything, then I think the president of Russia is going to decide whether or not he wants to have a good relationship with the United States and might allow him to be extradited to the US," he said.

Their pride somewhat bruised, US officials have noted that Snowden appears to be seeking refuge in countries not known for their freedom of speech.

"There is a certain irony here, of course, that somebody who says that he's about freedom of the Internet and freedom of information, of course, would seek out some of these countries in particular," said State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell.

"You don't see him standing up for the free flow of information in some of these countries that don't always have that."

And certainly nations like Ecuador and Venezuela, which have prickly ties at best with the US, could seize on the moment to deal a blow to Washington in a game of diplomatic one-upmanship.

"In the case of Ecuador, there is once again, like Venezuela, a willingness and even an eagerness to kick sand in Uncle Sam's face," said Cynthia Arnson, director for the Latin American program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

One direct consequence for Quito could be the end of some trade preferences granted by Congress, she said.

"I can imagine the US government taking steps to expel the Ecuadoran ambassador," she added.

"In the case of Venezuela it certainly runs contrary to what seems to be the interests of (President Nicolas) Maduro's government in improving the relationship with the United States."

Then let us use the same standards that the Chinese demanded of US? Where are the evidence? Sorry, but just as you Chinese refused Mandiant's publishing of their finding, we can reject Snowden's words. Where are the Chinese versions of Mandiant, McAfee, and so on, who could come out and support Chinese counter-charge? Say that Snowden could guide the Chinese into finding out how, this mean that all this time the Chinese have been laughing at US for being 'behind' China in cyber warfare, the US have been pwning China.
