What's new

US Drone strikes in Pakistan are illegal under international law.

Hey.. 5 terrorists less is always good.. If 10 are getting created, it reflects on the conditions inside Pakistan that promote such situations. Upto the Pakistani establishment to solve for it.. If they cant, the next Drone strike will take care of those 10 too.. Take care of your problems or else others will, like they are at this time..

Where is the logic in this statement? Whats your obsession?
I find the infestation of poor quality foaming comments like this reflects sentiments of a few global internet warriors on here.

It cannot be questioned the sacrifices and efforts made by Pakistan to remove these terrorists in the past. One doesn't have to look far back in history for confirmation of this.
The frequency of drone attacks seems to have increased conveniently due to the breakdown of relations recently. It seems to be a tool to exert pressure on the Pakistan government to "play ball" and bow to the demands put on them
Innocent people are being used as cannon fodder and its shameful that its continuing. If the Americans believe this type of pressure will work - they are sadly mistaken. Quite the contrary - more hatred is being created as we speak.

To be honest you Hindis should not be worried about Pak Army, they are not allowing all this sadly it is because of the corrupt Govt. drone attacks are taking place. Ex Air Chief Marshal Rao was questioned in the parliament that “why can’t you shoot them down?” corrupt politician asked him, Rao said “give us the permission & will shoot the drones down”. After the answer there was pin drop silence in the parliament.

These attacks are only taking place because of corrupt administration.

As far as Pak Army goes there is too much anger & rage in Pak Army against the Govt., opposition & US. As soon as Pak Army takes over Pakistan even it is for few months US wont dare to launch a drone strike in Pakistan no matter what happens. This the main reason why US does not want to see Pak Army running Pakistan, so they are doing all the propaganda against our Pak Army.

This is perfect example of 'firing from other's shoulder'.

US always have benefited from martial laws in Pakistan. Entire history is in front of you.

lol funniest post in the thread, since when your army started to listen to the government ?????your armed forces know the day they shoot down one drone, next day they will see b-2 bombers and f-22 hovering over pakistan airspace and eliminating you beloved armed forces,so stop living in delusion that you can shoot down usa drone and there will be no repercussion.

pakistani airforce and navy cant sustain two days in front of us navy and airfore, your army might sustain war for few more days after that we willhave new iraq in our backyard.......

scary senario.........

Not really......The moment B-2 and F-22's enter the picture, we will be free to take out all US Airforce and Naval Bases within our strike because that's the only way to stop the aerial attacks. And the war can be escalated in that manner, but only if will is there.

So afghanistan has others neighbors too.. Ever wonder why only Pakistan ends up getting whipped for events inside Afg

May be because they don't have pushtoon population that forms nearly all of Taliban. It is too easy to understand. You killed a Wazir in North Waziristan, a Wazir living on other side of Durand line might be joining Taliban to avenge the death of a fellow tribesmen and not to forget a Muslim.

Since most of them are in Pakistan when Spring offensive starts, I would say its definitely helping. When its winter attacks go down and they rest in Pakistan. This is no brainer. Even the Taliban calls it Spring offensive.

Collectively at the end of they day. It has failed to push Taliban to cease to exist or at least come to negotiations table on America's terms. Says enough for the success of this lunacy campaign known as drone attacks.

I feel pity for the government, the army does not provide them full freedom and keep a lot of decision with them, but then PPP has to take the entire blame. I cannot confidently say who is taking decision on drones. It appears to me that Zardari is just a front but all the dealings with US is controlled by PA. If it was Zardari or the PPP government who was taking decision, NATO routes would have been opened long back. This is my judgement of the situation.
PPP is the convenient scapegoat here.

It insults people's intelligence as to trying to deflect who runs the show in Pakistan, especially regarding the policy on Afghanistan and the WoT.

Why are you feeling pity for the government? What is stopping the PPP from boosting their popularity amongst Pakistanis and reducing the influence of the Army by openly coming out and implementing the suggestions I made, if indeed it is the Army that is stopping them?

The goal of any political party is to win votes, here is a god given chance for the PPP to win massive popularity and crush Army influence, and you want us to believe that the PPP is refusing to do so because of the Army?

Your arguments make no sense, and are in fact the ones that 'insult people's intelligence ..'

Actually it will make sense when you will realize they do not want to follow popular public sentiment but what US wants to do. PPP will like to open NATO routes for sure.

In that case you basically admitted that the PPP is acting on its own, without Army pressure, and therefore deserves the blame for not acting to stop the drone attacks, and therefore deserves the wrath of Pakistanis for not acting on the 'will of the people'.

Mr. Hawx

Pakistanis are not ready to accept the INCOMPOTENCE of their armed forces regarding drone attacks. Many members here are blaming pakistan civilian government for allowing drone attacks. The drone attacks did'nt start during PPP rule, It was started during the reign of pervez musharaff. After 2009 the number of US drone attacks increased.

Exactly PA started it and was the main driver and now when they cannot stop it, they are trying to blame in on PPP. However it is also correct that GoP can take a stand and direct PA.
I however do not know if PA will allow them to take a stand and what prevents them from taking a stand.
Will PA accept if GOP says start NW operation? if that is true I am willing to accept the blame is on PPP.

They want government to deal with drone strikes but they do not want to act on safe heaves which is their responsibility.

Pervez Musharraf and his government are to be blamed for allowing the drone attacks during his rule.

The PPP led Coalition government is to be blamed for allowing the drone attacks during their rule.

What is so hard to understand here? The Army does not have the public support on this issue to undermine the PPP led coalition, if the GoP chooses to take the matter to the ICJ/UN and take measures to prevent US Drones from flying in Pakistani airspace.

Wrong, Musharraf and his advisers started it, not the PA.

The Army can fight back on the issue of a NW operation because it is unpopular in Pakistan and the public will not support it at this time, especially because it will be seen as being done because of US diktat.

Taking diplomatic, legal and military action against drones, however, is a different issue, since the public overwhelmingly will support such a response.

There you go, when it suits PA it can take orders from government and when not, it will refuse. Then you are blaming it on government.

If you are saying government can take decision it will follow, there should be no riders. Both are linked, government can work with US to stop drone strikes if it assures it is acting on it soil.

Pakistan army was against musharaff decision to allow drone attacks? Did any one of the Pakistan Army corp's commanders oppose his decision? who were Musharaff Advisors? If i am right he would have consulted Nadeem Taj, Mehmood Ahmed ( Rawalpindi corps commander at that time).
