Seeing how mopeds were driven in Egypt (I assume Pakistanis aren't much more careful)....it's a wonder this doesn't happen more often. RIP to the dead.

Pakistani traffic is not as brutal as that of Cairo's (except maybe Karachi) though anywhere outside of main areas of Lahore or Islamabad there isn't much road discipline

i think this thread isn't worthy simply because I do think this was an accident....people are still having Raymond Davis affair on their minds and it brought about a huge amount of anger and resentment


as for the diplomat -- probably re-assigned another job somewhere else. The embassy ought to pay a handsome fine to the government and pay a large re compensation to the family -- since the dead guy was probably a bread-winner.

Many people are against diplomatic immunity. They say why ordinary people are punished when committing a crime and diplomats are not punished. Are they better than we are? But unfortunately seems that some countries have lack of morality. For example United States of America. When crime is committed there, always public debate arises over diplomatic immunity. But their own diplomats along European diplomats even their personal staff are violating other countries laws as well. Yes, it's possible to blame the country, but you can't sanction the diplomat, save to kick him out of Pakistan. If the diplomat was inebriated, for example, then the U.S. can be blamed for letting a diplomat drive in that state of mind. But no, a traffic accident is not itself proof of murder, indeed murder (i.e., premeditated manslaughter) is rarely suspected in such cases, nor is it likely to be proved as such in court without considerable evidence, rather than the vapors that fuel the rumor mills in Pakistan.

Frankly ,the whole idea of Dilomatic Immunity is total bull$hit. While that whole thing about India holding the Italian ambassador was going on , I found an article detailing many historical misuses of diplomatic immunity , one in your own country. Apparently , one diplomat from Guyana raped a girl in NYC , the police arrested him , and the girl left the police station after the arrest. The next day , she saw him chilling at a coffee shop. The guy raped about 15 women during his stay in NYC and wasn't convicted of anything. This diplomatic immunity is a big tool of oppression.
