Could have shot down many civilian planes in the past around the area. It be like the Russians shooting down a civilian airliner in Ukraine because they thought it was hostile.

you can pack a small boat with 10, 200km range missiles if you want, but if the boat only has sensors that can detect, track and engage a target at 10km.....well your engagement range is at best 10km, more realistically, much less than that because you would seldom have a good chance of success at max engagement range. what most countries will do, if they can, is make the boats extremely stealthy and network them allowing a boat that made it to range or a larger ship such as a frigate to command friendly missiles in the area, as china did with the type-022.

in peace a unstealthy swarm or even a single small boat, can sneak up to a target even if that target is an american destroyer, in war, however, against the US the command ship and the swarm will never make it to engagement range, so long as the american forces are not forced to come extreme close to shore(even then theres only a small windows)

The boat don't necessarily need to detect the target itself , they can be detected by the shore facilities or even a UAV. and the missile need only need some minor course correction , when it's 20-30km away from the target all then there is no need for input from anything so it can hit the target.

if you read what i wrote, and i mean really read. i said missiles would be networked to another sensor such as a larger one on a larger ship, or as you said, shore facilities, but again i already this could only happen, if you draw the american close to shore which they would not normally do unless they've already cleared the area.

Well there still is debate about Russian SAM and who fired it and if it was deliberate or a mistake.

And about Iran plane and USS vincnse I still wonder why american panicked when they mistake that plane with an f14 nobody better than american navy knew f14a has no ground attack capabilities

And by the way at the time of the incident when us ship shut down Iranian airplane or even before the time there was absolutely no operation of Iranian side but us navy was faking signal of a Liberian ship to pull out Iranian boats which they failed so a trigger happy captain against the direct order of his commander moved his ships inside Iranian territory and start firing at Iranian boats with its cannon which all of them missed so he later order to fire 2 missile toward Iranian plane while every other American ship in Persian gulf and sea of omman could recognize the plane as a civilian one .

The rebels already admitted they shot it down. Just that they thought it was a military transport plane so it was an accident. After all they successfully shot down multiple Ukrainian military planes so they thought they successfully shot down another.
