That's what I call Under-armed a ship thrice the length and twice the width of Zolfaghar Boat that have 6 time the crew of the boat only equipped with

(USN) 2 Mk38 chain guns
2 Mk19 grenade launchers
2 .50 (12.7 mm) machine guns
6 Stinger missiles

don't you think that can be considered under-armed compared to Iranian boat which are armed with two Hoot torpedo with the speed of 250km and Two Anti-ship missiles and 1 machine gun ?

by the way USS Whirlwind is a lot larger than the boat that was in the picture and honestly our Zaffar and kowsar missile on the Zolfaghar or Peykap has more range than that Griffin Missile after all if you fire it from a ship it only have 5km of range.

as far i know fishermen are not military personals, in asia at least. don't know in US, fishermen are considered as military personals.

notting gonna happen... russia and china will support iran. iran already shot down lot of US drones. so sinking a CG ship won't do anything... you remember US had earlier shot down an iranian passenger plane. so they can highlight thses in insternational court and in the UN.

With small patrol boats armed with small multiple missiles it can defeat multiple swarm boats at the same time at around 20km away. The Persian Gulf is not that big anyways. Best way to deal with a swarm of boats is a swarm of missiles. Whether from ships or small boats or fighter bombers.

U.S mainland is a long long way from the Persian Gulf. any token fleet sent by Iran would be costly and time consuming. of course we'll watch, but long as they behave they are free to do as they please

How big is the boat? Do all dhows look the same in size and shape?

the problem is those missiles only have 4-5km of range but those boats Torpedo have 10km of range and its missiles between 20-30km
don't forget those griffin missiles only have 12-20km of range if fired of Helicopters otherwise they have only 4-5km of range

and I think the best way to counter a swarm of boat is using a swarm of Attack helicopters equipped with Hellfire not a swarm of your own boat while they are slower and have less fire power. remember Seraj-1 is Blade-runner and go up to 70 miles.

about dhows well in the Persian gulf and Sea of Oman they are built in various built and shape from having the cargo capacity of around 1-2ton up to 700 tons but usually the fishing boats have the capacity of up to 10-20 ton of cargo . but it still remain the question , It was really a fishing Dhow or a Cargo Dhow ? and also was it Iranian at all those Dhows in Persian gulf and see of Oman have the flag of all the countries from India to Somalia and raise the flag that seems to them make them less likely to be inspected .
and by the way Reza Taheri in the book "from Pearl to Oil" counted and described about 15 variation of dhow

right now brimstone cant be fired from Ships , the range is 60km while fired from airplane ad 40km while fired from helicopter and probably half of that if they design a launcher to fire it from ships. and honestly while it could hit a fast moving truck the faster ship it could hit has a speed of 20knot and you knew that hitting small boats is a little harder than small trucks as the water won't play nice with radars.

Is it only me or the missile really bigger than its launcher? Look at the fins, the missile wouldn't be fit into the launcher.

Whether its hard or not, they just wanted to test to see if they can hit a boat on the surface of the water along with neutral ships amongst it. And they also wanted to test against fast vehicles on land as well. The new Brimstone they are developing is around 100km range they designing with wings and engine.

5km altitude and 10km distance is pretty much short range for helos. But useless against drones and aircraft as you mentioned. But its better than nothing.

You were compensated and the U.S. had no intentional reason to shoot down the aircraft if they knew it was civilian unless the U.S. thought it was hostile fighter aircraft on radar. Could have shot down many civilian planes in the past around the area. It be like the Russians shooting down a civilian airliner in Ukraine because they thought it was hostile.

iran navy should sink that F***ing coast guard vessel for their action in the region were USCG have no jurisdiction. coast guard is for guarding the cost of their own country not for shooting fishermen in half way across their country.

they are responsible for providing protection to the naval base located close by
