US citizen taken into custody in Peshawar

Another US citizen held in Peshawar: police

PESHAWAR: Security forces Friday arrested an American national on charges of illegally staying in the country, police and intelligence officials said.

Police identified the man arrested on Friday as Aaron Mark DeHeaven, adding he was taken into custody from Falcon Complex, a residential area in Peshawar.

"The US national has been arrested on charges of illegal stay in Pakistan," local police official Amin Jan said.

His visa had expired on October 23, Jan said adding that the American would be tried under the Foreigners Act.

Punishment for illegal stay in Pakistan is three months imprisonment or deportation, police said.

The purpose of his visit was unclear but one security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that he had been working with private security agency Catalyst in Islamabad.

Another police official Hashmat Khan said a team of police and intelligence agencies had started an investigation. He quoted the US national as saying that he had travelled to Peshawar to meet a Pakistani girl.

A US embassy statement said it was aware of the reported arrest and was arranging consular access through Pakistan government.

"We have seen press reports that an American citizen named Aaron Mark DeHaven has been detained by police in Peshawar," the statement said.

"Until a US government representative meets with him, we cannot confirm additional details," it added. (AFP)

Since this is a case of illegal stay, he should just quietly be deported. Things shouldnt get overly-politicised now.

This national should have known about his visa standing; and Pakistan should address this concern to the Embassy.

this is standard protocol in any civilized country

since isi is now against cia, isi will now try to take revenge and filter all others like davis...

We know what law over this kind of arrest but problem create when any traitor type ministers or interior/foreign officials support them. In fact these people are hurdles in agencies work against illegal foreigners or legal foreigners active in negative activities.

well yeah, people should first of all blame those who let in people if they are perceived to be spies or trouble makers

but again, this whole RD thing has caused media and people to become too emotional. I dont see why this always needs to make front-page news when we have more pressing issues

not saying we should be lenient; but get your priorities in order

Well put, but may be it has become the national psyche to ignore the really important issues since they are too impalatable and difficult to resolve or indeed even accept?

I have heard- that the amrican is a convert Muslim- and have a Pakistani wife- is that true?-
If thats the case- then its not that serious-

Or he has done all that to blend in- wonder when we gona start trusting the americans-

I agree. This is getting too emotional.

There are lots of decent Americans in Pakistan also doing good humanitarian work.

Let ISI do it's job privately and go after the CIA crooks instead of letting the media control the momentum.

.
Why don't u guys Blame ISI first then the traitor haqaani and then the interior ministery I think all of them are on the payroll of American CIA it's becoming our habit to blame others for our problems let's jail all those ppl who let mr Davis in the country shabby work by isi we should stop taking money to kill our fellow countrymen let's end this slavery

All of Pakistan should unite against the enemies of Pakistan, especially against foreigners who want to destroy Pakistan.

Lahore poilice, Peshawar police, Islamabad police, Quetta police, Karachi police should all question any suspicious foreigners especially Americans.
