University of Lahore expels students for hugging on campus

Their rules..

University has their rules, which they abide by. My university in Pakistan has a Library and their rule was that no student can borrow a book for more than 2 days, but one time i keep the book for 1 week for which i was called upon by the administration to return the book and made a statement, I didn't go and show up and I was expelled for 1 month.

(the story above is a fictional story, just to made a point)

invite them in your home gather your family and let them hug and kiss in front of them -

Unlike your family we are people of culture and tolerance. Hugging someone doesn't disturb their mental balance, like it does for your family.

jobless people... there are far worse infractions going on and people have reason to be salty they didn't find love when they were younger lol

good decision. these guys should be banned from all pakistani universities. this is just frustration, frustration of youth. everybody knows what they are doing in the video. universities are for education and not a role model for proposal. this is unacceptable and liberals should go to hell. i know many will support it. liberals you can't win against mullahs hahaha.

Go back to Raiwind Ijthimah with your lotta
Do you think I feel insulted or humbled by comparing me to mosque-custodians?

paakis like you need to get off of that pedestal. If you are comparing me to maulvis or mosque-custodians then you are comparing me to people who believe in piety and simplicity. Such people are what we should aim to emulate - those Pakistanis who would know humility in front of the almighty.

What about you paaki - do you take pride in being 'above' such lowly people who believe piety and dignity? Do you take pride in being so similar and so 'modern' just like your american neighbors? No wonder the character of paakis has gone down. They don't believe in humility anymore...

Millions without jobs, millions poor and hungry, hindu culture rampant in the form of caste, dowry for marriage, worships of man, liberalism rampanr, corruption rampant. Yet somehow Enlightened pious Pakistanis on here are moral crusaders against young couple in love in college. The same Pakistanis who call their people PAKIS (racist nasty word) just like their british overlords did. The same pious “Pakis” who degenerate pakistanis overseas who send back 3 billion USD every month and keep their aukat overfloat.

pakistanis overseas are far more nationalistic than “Pakis” (as you refer) as your kind has rampant homophobia, pedophilia, etc... dont believe me? Go search google for the top 10 searches in pakistan and see the state of the pious islamic republic you made for your children.

These so called pakistani are the same people who leach off their relatives overseas at the first chance they get. Instead you should be thankful for overseas pakistani for keeping your economy afloat or else ruppee would have hit rs1000 per 1 dollar by now. You should thank overseas pakistani for making your country a nuclear powr (aq khan/abdus salam), lastly you should thank overseas Pakistanis for giving a great reputation of Pakistan since pakistanis back home are honestly known for something else (look at pakistans reputation overseas even in china)... infact it was overseas Pakistanis ie Jinnah who got the education to fight for you independance. Believe me if Jinnah could see the state of his people today he would regret dying for such a pathetic nation.

Look at yourself before you judge others

That's Afghanistan not Pakistan.

you must live in a fools paradise. Bachabazi in one form or another is rampant and wide spread across pakistan. From maddrassahs, to villages, to major cities. Pedophilia is very common. Its just not an afghan phenomonam. Infact ill be the first to admit its prob far more wide spread in Pakistan due to the willingness of society to ignore it or look the other way. Our people would much rather judge a male/female couple....

The University of Lahore couple's crime was being too happy for Pakistanis
PUBLISHED A DAY AGO

We have way more to worry about than a young couple in love.

Two consenting adults hugged at the University of Lahore and Pakistan went mad. Half the country wanted the couple and everything they purportedly stood for gone — premarital love? In the Islamic Republic of Pakistan? Not on their watch! — while the other half idolised them as warriors for love.

But why do they have to be either? The couple in question hasn't spoken up after the 'incident' — some very obviously fake Twitter accounts in their names notwithstanding — and have been lying low since their expulsion. We've made them into crusaders for a cause but has anyone asked if they want to be the poster-children for love in Pakistan?

But whether they like it or not, Pakistan is talking about the "incident". Videos uploaded on social media showed a young woman handing roses and cards to a young man and then bending down on one knee and holding out a bouquet of roses to him. He takes the roses and then pulls her in for a hug. A crowd of students surrounds the couple and cheers them on. Everyone from politicians to celebrities is talking about it.

And apparently, when a video on social media goes this viral, even the government will take notice. The Ministry of Human Rights Parliamentary Secretary Lal Chand Malhi recently called the University of Lahore’s decision an “overreaction” and asked the varsity to re-admit them. That the government officially intervened is shocking in itself — most ministers' preferred form of action is taking notice via Twitter — but that it stood up for an unmarried young couple is even more noteworthy.

The university says the couple violated Section 9 of its General Discipline Rules and Code of Conduct. Unlike other varsities, the University of Lahore doesn't publish these rules online, but Pakistani universities have a poor track record with allowing students the liberty to express themselves.

Malhi called the university's action "moral policing" and said deviant behaviour should instead be regulated through counselling, noting, however, that such services were mostly not provided by university administrations.

The letter noted that the personal freedoms of the right to marry and propose at will are guaranteed by Pakistani laws and the Constitution, as well as international covenants. The university's "extreme action" has sent a critical message that it could not tolerate and accept two students proposing to each other, wrote Malhi.

One of the biggest arguments online against the couple's expulsion was that the university hasn't taken action against teachers accused of harassment but pounced on this opportunity to flex its authority. Why was a couple hugging more abhorrent to the University of Lahore than harassment? Online, people began bashing the couple and argued that they should get married before hugging. They're ignoring the fact that they were punished for a public proposal. In our experience, most proposals are for marriage.
Amid all these conversations, we seem to have missed something pretty major — a young woman broke barriers for proposing to a young man. In a society where men are expected to make the first (and only) move, we should be applauding her for being brave and going after what she wants. Instead, we turned her into a villain and ruined her future.

Pakistan, we have so much more to worry about. Our Covid cases are rising and violence against women continues unabated. National outrage over an expression of joy is both unneeded and unwarranted. Would we have preferred that he wasn't happy about being proposed to?

The Ministry of Human Rights said, "Both the girl and the boy did not commit such a heinous crime for which they were punished severely and expelled from the university." Their crime, it seems, was being too happy for Pakistanis.

Well, after producing dozens of scholars of the highest order every day, the university had to expend its surplus energy elsewhere.

No it's not. Neither Bachabazi nor pedophilia. That is a foolish statement. It's important to not present fallacious statements in support of your argument because it defeats the entire purpose of it.

Im sure Gen Bajwa was at fault here
I would be pleased to have your take on the current situation of youth and how “bigri hoi” it is turning out every passing day.

Good old oscar, Do write a piece once you get time on your POV of this society future and collapse

Bigri howi is irrelevant - frankly if the basic scale was to weigh against whether I want the couple making out in public or them engaging in corrupt monetary and professional practices in life, I can live with the former.

That doesn’t mean that hearts will ever stop fluttering in youth and that limits will never be crossed, its as inevitable as death for homo sapiens; but Pakistani society has no outlets and no solution for the increasing disparity in the “settled” age for young folks to marry. But those are social problems that take a backseat to much more pressing social and economic injustices which most Pakistanis are shy of tackling because they have their own personal stakes in keeping those systems going.

So the hugging couple is more important or Qandeel Baloch in terms of regulation because that is all they feel empowered on.
