Just have to swing the margins in a few states. It took 2 major crises and multiple small scandals to unseat Trump.

Tom Cotton is just an example. There are plenty of people with Trump ideology out there who are too smart to act like Trump in public.

Nope. Tom Cotton is too much of a prick and has zero charm. Trump was a prick but he was also charismatic and warm at times. Plus the fact that he had a 40 year history as a celebrity before even running.

Tom Cotton doesn't have a snowflake's chance of being president. You are way overestimating his appeal.

I've been around a lot of rural White working class people, the type that make up the base of Trump supporters, and I have a healthy respect for them. Yes, they have been getting fucked over and I would say that Trump did try in some ways to bring jobs back, but he was largely ineffective. The problem is that the US government as a whole is too dysfunctional and too corrupt to really invest effectively in these regions and provide meaningful opportunities for most of them.

I travel to these rural areas for consulting work and stuff as well, but they have themselves to blame. There thought process is “my granddaddy, my daddy worked in a coal mine, I will do that to”. They don’t get out of there comfort zone and attach themselves to a union job getting paid $40 for holding a stupid stop sign during construction work and putting a bolt in a car. They hurt there own generations to come and it’s a self inflicted wound. So I really can’t feel sorry for them.

I’ve had many of these Whites tell me we Asians come and take there wrench away and along with it jobs. I tell them keep you wrench as long I sit over you and supervise I’m good.

Yeah it's ironic that for a people who love to talk about "pulling yourself up by the bootstraps", they really sure sit around and reminisce about the "good ol days" a whole lot without adapting.

Like I said just an example. Somebody else will almost certainly come up to exploit racists and self haters in a smart way. Just watch 2024.

Democrats have nobody in line really, after Biden, and they tend to be easily fragmented and demoralized (see 2016) while Republicans always vote as a block.

Indeed. A simple immigrant family accumulated enough wealth within 2 generations that these whites for 10 generations don’t have much to show for. The gap has widened so much that I do feel a Universal Basic Income program will be needed so they can survive, to talk about the good old days.

I have seen workers from these states come to New York to work on local construction jobs. It’s not the lack of work in the men but the lack of work in the states they live in. The cost of doing business in some of these states is so much higher then in coastal states, or states with larger populations. It’s mot much different then doing business in Lahore versus parts of KPK.

These more rural states need infrastructure to level the playing field. High speed internet, better roads and rail, clean drinking water not polluted by the coal mines doing mountain top removal and dumping the wasting into the creeks (pronounced “cricks” in those parts) and streams people drink from. With good infrastructure like high speed trains, some of these areas can become bedroom communities for major cities, similar to what is planned with California’s high speed rail or Texas’s high speed central railway. the service jobs this will generate will keep the community more stable.

Starting with just high speed internet, talent can find investment. Farmers can make very niche products for customers in the region and further away, getting them to farmers market that same day. The lack of infrastructure has left these parts of the country behind to ALMOST third world conditions. The trailer parks and run down conditions people live in the “hollers”; narrow valleys in between the mountains. People without any work get busy starting a family, planned or unplanned. Many of these young people, confused about the outside world, join up to serve but also have a stable job, acting out the orders of politicians that don’t give them any other options.

Free Job training and bring in long term investment through tax incentives has got to be a way to heal the divides. Biden may eek out a win this cycle but unless these issues are addressed this is a powder keg awaiting the next fuse.

who is more popular?

that is the answer, the elections try to provide. :p:
But it seems the answer is not delivered with absolute clarity. So we wait for that clarity.
In the meanwhile, wait for more of Trump's threats and actions to turn this in his favour.
He still has some chances, but they are diminishing with more counts of the postal votes.

is going to be missed in every respect and will be known as the great corrupt entertainer. Never a meeting or speech without humour on controversy. Brought in by help with the Ruskies Trump lied through his teeth, quite often brazenly. Threatened Pakistan on New Years day and gave us all a good laugh. Trump filled up Israeli military demands with everything America had and in return they filled up his pockets with all the gold they had. He declared a trade and cold/ hot war with China and disrupted the world trade order, unleased Pompeo to rattle the Chinese and attacked the China -Pakistan corridor. The poor got poorer and the rich got happier. The cities filled up with tents of the homeless and he callously shrugged his shoulders. He was busy sending his son in law to appease the Israelis and dispose of the Palestinians and cracked open the corrupt Arab orifices. He survived the hurricane of Stormy Daniels and proved he was immune to scandals. Trumped bullied and threatened all around him but finally got his comings and the dotard got replaced by a retard.

Democrats may try to run Coumo in 2024, and republicans may run Pompeo to counter, and negate the Italian American vote. other than Coumo, your right, it doesn’t seem like the democrats are building anyone up who might be competitive.

Democrats have the mandate, they need to clean house inside their party (because they feel short in the senate) and need to fix the cities if they hope to convince more of the public they can inspire positive outcomes. Biden will need to channel more Kennedy and less Carter; No “malaise” speech and only a “ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country”. Bring out the best people who are willing to enter public service for the right reasons.

You have well thought out points. But the US is now structured in a way with High Tech in West Coast and Financial Districts in Chicago to East Coast. So theirs a concentration of work force geographically.

Infrastructure jobs are needed but they’ll last 5-10 years tops. Plus, the main issue is how we going to fund these projects as people already tight handed raising taxes will hurt them even more.

Let’s not forget with the Work From Home picking up pace we might not see much travel as before and real estate office vacancy space will be rising.

We are living in very different times where changes are happening in minutes rather than years like days of old.
Scary times indeed
According to some reports, republican leaders are pressurizing Trump to concede for the good of the country

He will have no choice but to do that if Biden pulls through.

Republicans are unlikely to run Pompeo tbh. He is not too charismatic, but rather a career bureaucrat, and Italian Americans don't have a strong identity outside blue strongholds anyhow. If they do run him it won't be in response to anything, it'll be because they see a way to win exploiting his ideology.

Democrats took a huge risk running an Irish Catholic. The only other was JFK. Irish Catholics also have weak identity outside blue strongholds and don't vote as a block. Cuomo is just a regular conservative, he won't have special appeal beyond more status quo, same as Biden.

Republicans are going to go in 100% on racism, militarism and xenophobia from here on out. They have seen that it works and the easiest way to win is through the aggrieved white working class at the margins. Their entire platform will be supremacy at home, dominance abroad. None of the timid, conservative Democrat goals.

Public private partnerships and tax incentives. What America had going for it is that people want to move here. Population growth, which is mostly through immigration, should continue to attract top talent from the rest of the world if we keep our companies competitive.

Immigrants cycle through cities, usually for the first one or two generations before moving to the suburbs; for their ethnic/back home needs. If the cities are vibrant again, people will come in to enjoy the experiences.
