UN must play role to resolve Kashmir dispute: Sharif

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday called for resolving the lingering issue of Kashmir in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions, saying the credibility of the global organisation will be at stake if it fails to implement its own resolutions.

Sharif spoke to lawmakers in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, as Pakistanis celebrated 'Kashmir Day.' Pakistan observes the day by holding rallies and arranging seminars on the issue of Kashmir, which is divided between Pakistan and India.

"Only implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions can amicably resolve the Kashmir issue. Until then peace in the region will remain an elusive dream," he said.

He also expressed his hope for early resumption of bilateral talks between Pakistan and India.

He said that the solution of all issues, including that of disputed Kashmir, lies in dialogue.

"Difference of opinion between two countries is not unheard of," Sharif said referring to Pakistan's differences with India over Kashmir during address to a joint session of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in Muzaffarabad. "What is unusual is that for 6-7 decades, we have not been able to get rid of these differences," he said.

It's a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan. UN can only come in picture, if both the Parties approach it. Until then, UN can't do zilch other than lip service.

And that's also the reason india will never enter in security council

If Russia fails in Syria, then UN can certainly do. Just see how it goes in Syria and Iraq. Things will change from now on.

Why don't Pakistan claim Gilgit-Baltistan as her province and let India claim the IOK to settle the issue... keep that be happy...

US or UN will never play "their" roles it will always come down from both Pakistan and India themselves. I also have high hopes from Shanghai Corporation as regional players can be effective mediators to solve this problem.

I guess many missed out simple fact, Pakistani PM also said the only solution is the dialogues between two countries. But THE PROBLEM is India Running away from these dialogues which is why he requested UN to bring India on the table.

Never the less, problems are meant to resolve rather then keep them alive for another 68 years and expect it will vanish away automatically.

The PM should read, and understand, the Simla Agreement before he says something so patently silly, again and again.

It was UN which interfered in Kargil War which pretty much saved India from losing More territory. So its the responcibility of UN to push for the Resolution of Kashmir because India have never complied Shimla agreement and when two parties can't sort out the matter then 3rd party have to jump in to mediate talks.

I request you to refute below mentioned with Links from International Sources:

1. UN intervened in Kargil War & Saved India:blink:
2. India never compiled to Shimla Agreement or UN Resolutions:pop:

3rd Party is out of intervention is out of Question as Kashmir is a bilateral issue. I can back this with Links from UN Head.

PS: Feel free to ignore my post, if can't provide links to prove 1 & 2.

Shimla Agreement don't only have this one clause which you Indians recite everywhere.
Shimla Agreement also have a clause which pushes the Need of Composite Dialogues to Resolve all disputes among the two countries and India have always suspended dialogues in pretext of Security Situations. Which pretty much sums that India haven't been complying Shimla Agreement.
So that agreement has lost its effectiveness and this is why Kashmir Case is being pushed in UN.
I am not going to search links for you. You have Google and you can find Shimla Agreement as Well as International sources.

Even UN is getting bored of trying to explain it to Pakistan that it's a bilateral issue. As for Jammu and Kashmir, it's non-negotiable.
