Pakistan already asked for CH-47, and apparently the Italians agreed to release 6 such helicopters to PA - but PA didn't take the option. We may see a formal request to U.S on DSCA for CH-47 and AH-1Z anyways.
As for medium-lift helicopters. The Mi-171 looks like a good low-cost and rugged helicopter, and I don't doubt that PA will acquire a good number - especially with production in China. However, Pakistan should undertake a medium-lift utility helicopter program to fulfill requirements across the services.
For example, AW149 can be used as a baseline design to produce naval frigate/corvette helicopters, general purpose army transports, medical evacuation aircraft, etc. A single design can be put into service within PA, PAF, PN, Frontier Corps/paramilitaries & Special Forces (SSG, SSW, SSG-N, et). In addition, this very design can be inducted for civilian use such as relief operations, policing, medical services, etc.
Pakistani military and civilian organizations can certainly produce a hefty helicopter requirement, and hence make local manufacturing a feasible and desirable option.
