UK proposes building future warships with India

Well, if Russia can take your fund for their PAK FA program, then why not UK?

It is possible. We get premier platforms to research further on and they get the money. The research part would be further meaningful as we gradually privatize our defense industries and once this crappy government gets out.

Your making out India is getting nothing in return- in the PAK FA/FGFA they get to be heavily involved in the design and development of an advanced 5th gen fighter as well as right to operate these mean beasts- unique in the region. And with the UK the deal would offer similar benefits. Everyone benefits- India with the latest tech and strentghing of industrial base aswell, the partner gets a finical boost to fulfil their capability.

.
Definitely should go through with this. Win-win for India both ways. First hand dip and understanding of the advanced, up-to-date technology. And as for the money going to the UK, that was money that was going to be spent regardless, either through procuring foreign made ships or an indigenous effort.

.
No sir this is actually a month old news Brits offered us this when they were here for MMRCA deal lobbying.
Buddy type 26 was offered way back along with Brazil when they also offered us Queen Elizabeth AC.

Well, according to our dear Russian friend, India has contributed almost nothing in the technology development of PAK FA.

The Chinese have
What are you trying to prove to me? We are not children.
The contribution of Chinese scientific thought in the Chinese aircraft carrier (comparable with the contribution of India in the development of the PAK-FA). China has a "пупок развяжется " build it all yourself.

Well , Indian Contribution is likely to be in the development of FGFA which is a customised twin seater version of PAKFA , and will carry both Indian equipment as well as certain tech from the mmrca winner
Just as Su30MKI carries Indian , French , Israeli equipment apart from Russian Airframe , engine and weapons package

Also if u look at the initial order placed by India
We have ordered 54 PAKFA to be delivered between 2017-20 and 160 FGFA to be build by HAL under JV between 2020-30
India Also has option for 40-90 More FGFA incase of the expected delay in AMCA project

Coming back to topic...

If this deal does go through and L&T/Pipavav/ABG design this new gen. world class Frigate with BAE. What will be the preference of IN..?
Shivalik Class order will continue or, will they favour this new design..? Will we field BRAHMOS + BARAK-8 on this one also ..? Will BAE outsource some modules of British Frigates to us for cost reduction..?
And most importantly who will cover the cost escalations ..? Govt. or, Shipyard ..?

This is what i posted earliar , maybe this could answer ur question

Actually , its a good Idea
According to Indian Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma " Even after inducting the 3 Shiwalik class Frigates and 3 Talwar class Frigates apart from Inducting 3 Kolkata class Destroyers and Placing orders for 7 P17A Frigates and 4 P15B Destroyers , Indian Navy will still be short of 7 Principle Surface combatant by 2022" ie against a requirement of 24 Frigates and 12 Destroyers , we would have only 19 Frigates and 10 Destroyer in 2022 ,
Hence there was a Proposal To order additional 4 Modified Talwar class Frigates at the cost of 3 Billion USD

If you people dont know , but currently Indian Maritime requirements call for 27 Principle Surface combatants and 18 Diesel subs but we only have 20 Principle Surface Combatants and 14 Subs

In My opinion , It is a good Idea to order 4-5 CGS or Type 26 Frigates instead of ordering another 4 Talwar class Frigates , simply becoz Talwar class though quite capable is still inferior to the current Shivalik class Frigates and they were only ordered becoz they were cheap and Russia promised to deliver them in 6 yrs

I agree with you. I think we should either go type 26 or FREMM as FREMM is most likely to be the basis of P17A design. Also cost of Talwar class is going to increase. I hope we chose FREMM as it is the best.

Not to forget the strategic pull which we can gain from this. Let it be the start of another Indo-Russia like relationship but this time with some western nation. Also, if both russia and britain enters the ship designing/building market then it would check the chances of one nation wantonly increasing the prices mid way.

.
The Type 45 destroyer is what India should be interested in. Its far more capable than the future Kolkata Class and will actually be able to give Inida's CBG's better air-defense then the Kolkata's ever could. The Type 26 is interesting but if India can successfully incorporate the Visby class stealth features into the future Shivalik frigates then there is no need for the Type 26. But if the current Shivalik's are any indication then the Type-26 will definitively be needed.

UK is good option for Indian pvt firms, i think we are leasing nuke sub to IN for training purposes and i believe Russia helped India with the Arihant's nuclear reactor, India can always try to go other places for weapons but remember Russia is an all weather friend always there to arm India when need be

Mate the problem is not In-Ru friendship. The problem is projects given to RU shipyards getting delayed one after the other coupled with spiraling cost.
So, I think it would only be intelligent of us to give some of our orders elsewhere.

reason being our defense industry just does not have the capacity to keep up with Indian orders either because we underestimated the cost of the product or the quantity of material etc is just lacking sad to say the least

Russian shipyards should just transfer technology to India and whatnot that way you guys can get the know how to make/refurbish ships

Well, u just cant compare Indo Russian Frienship on the basis of few Orders... China NEVER Came forward to Defend pakistan .. but remember Russian Nuclear Subs were there in 1971 !!!!

we have over 200 Active Projects worth Billions of Dollars !!

Facts Speak !!

on topic,

It will be a great learning experiance for both sides. UK and India can trust eachother and have many areas of interest.
Who KNows.... ...

Ships ( Destroyers , Subs even ACs ) from UK
Subs from Germany
MMRCA from France

a Deadly Deal Isnt It ?
