UCLA Student Video Rant Against Asians

Ok so it was fine when hordes of English, Irish, German, Polish, Spanish, Italians, Mexican, Serbian, Puerto Ricans and so on and so forth came to America. They were perfectly acceptable. But when it is the Asians, it is all wrong. Suddenly, the blue blooded Americans feel threatened as in they are being swamped. Of course it is not racism. It is a deep rooted belief that America is for whites or derivatives of whites and all non whites are essentially 'hordes'.

So miming Chinese to mock Japanese student concerned about the safety of their families in Japan is cool with you?

Casual racism is still racism. Considering how many Indians were screaming for blood over this (even to the point of issuing a diplomatic complaint), I find their nonchalance about what the girl did pretty hollow and hypocritical.

You are right. It is hypocritical.

Most of us are a bit hypocrites in this regard from what I have seen.

I was talking about same Indian members here defending the girl, who back a few month ago, was out for Paul Henry's blood over the Dikshit thing.

You don't think it to be offensive because it is directed against chinese students. But you start crying foul when the same thing is done by

Austrailians to Indian students in Austrailia. If you realize they (Austrailians) also have similar complaints like Indians are very smelly, they stink so much that the hostels and apartment buildings they live in also start to stink like .

Probably the Indian students become home sick if they live in a cleaner, non-stinky environment for long, and its out of love for their country that they spread the stink every where they go..

Hmm , that actually kind of gives a good expalanation about why pakistanis try to blow up bombs in foreign countries .

To make sure they don't miss home ?

I am sorry but this is what any unbiased person would infer from that .

Pretty much the definition of hypocrisy.

I am not really sure I saw anyone defending her. Some probably seem to be confused whether it should be called racist or just in bad taste and ignorance.

But then, I don't think anyone other than Indians were too angry with that ugly New Zealand buffoon as well.

People tend to take offense only when it comes to their own (or their "ally"). It is not really good but seems to be how it works.

I personally think all immigrants should oppose it together.

. . .
Reverse the scenario, loads of American students being loud and drunk in a Chinese university dorm. How would we "Eastern people" react to this western behaviour?

LOL you must be joking.

The Westerners here in Hong Kong act the same way they do back home, especially when drinking on a Friday/Saturday night.

I have never complained though. Why should I?

You are taking it out of context. Read my earlier post, I said 9/10 people wouldn't care but there will be a small minority who will have issues with it and give it a racial tinge.

P.S: Any of you guys watched the movie "Crash(2004)"? Highly recommended if not.

The point i wanted to make is it is being blown out of proportion as she is just a college student representing herself making a video. Not a television representative. You wouldn't think comedian doing racist bits is racist on the count you don't take them serious or hold him accountable. Why on earth would this even be made the big deal it has become. Since when does the rants of a 20 year old college student factor into anything. I am saying if we are stuck and insecure of things as fruitless as this it isn't helpful.
