UAE TO CONSTRUCT OIL REFINERY IN KPK

A United Arab Emirates (UAE) based company has agreed to invest five hundred million dollar in the construction of oil refinery in southern areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).

Official sources told our Peshawar correspondent that a memorandum of understanding has already been signed with the company.

The sources said that Karak and Kohat districts are producing forty five thousand barrels crude oil daily.

i think this refinery have been announced many years ago. But i don't think locals will be given jobs.

The project of the refinery was already awarded to FWO and it seems that they had found an investors out there. Its FDI we are talking about and also the help of this UAE company to build the refinery as FWO has never been involved in this kind of venture earlier. FWO is tasked to sort out not only administrative issues but also get hands on such kind of projects too. Here are the latest news on this project.

why in world they wants to construct oil refinery in KPK did they discover any new well. it sud be somewhere in blouchistan or sindh.

i think this refinery have been announced many years ago. But i don't think locals will be given jobs.

Same was said about Nashpa-Mela fields but I can see overwhelming numbers of locals esp Khattaks in all these projects. Also the first right of use of the Natural Gas was given to local community and that is why first Gas connections were given to locals and then moved forward. Also the first CNG stations were set up in Karak and Kohat regions. Can U plz enlighten us what led U to think so that locals would not be given jobs here? Again in the case with Kohat Cement Factory and Lucky Cement factory overwhelming number of locals got the jobs, atleast in labor category where they were first trained and then sent to work on machines.

The oil fields in the area are producing 45000 barrels oil per day and more discoveries are expected as the scope of exploration has been extended. Also mapping of FATA has been done and some work has already kicked off there. So rather than transporting the crude oil back to other refineries, why not set up one for it in its vicinity. Its capacity can gradually be enhanced with more discoveries made in the future.

Big projects takes time first RFI (Request for Info) completed then RFQs done and after that projects kicks off, in 2012 proposal was made and now projects is ready to start.
