By Ed Attwood
The UAE has announced compulsory military service for all males between the ages of 18 and 30.
- Sunday, 19 January 2014 1:38 PM
The move was announced by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, on Twitter. Sheikh Mohammed said that the country’s cabinet had endorsed the plan, although there is no indication when the rules will take effect. The length of service is set to be two years for those without high school degrees, and nine months for those who have graduated from high school.
Military service will be optional for women.
“A reserve force for the UAE will be made up of those who have completed their national service, as well as members of the military who have finished their service in the armed forces,” Sheikh Mohammed said.
In November, Qatar announced that All Qatari men aged between 18 and 35 will soon be forced to undertake up to four months compulsory military service if a new government draft law is given the green light by authorities, according to a report by the AFP news agency.
The new legislation will require four months compulsory service for all men within the age bracket, while university graduates will only be expected to serve three months, the report said.

After Qataris and Emiraties, its your turn. Time to lift your fatass and become a conscript. -- wouldn't that be a sight !
Wohoo, oh wait, I dont have to do it.Kuwait also announced compulsory military service days ago. Not surprising news to me, the region is boiling.

I'm exempted from service since I'm already in
At least we should train people after 12th Class and when war takes place we can announce who ever wants to participate can come and join the war I think their should be 6 months training along with maybe Tafseer taughtWe have a Standing Army - all of our soldiers are professional, career soldiers.
Conscription is for nations that can't build a standing army, or are in a process of building one.
Though i agree, that we do need to have something similar to the National Cadet Corps.
Didn't know eating all day in the officer's mess was considered a 'service'
Wohoo, oh wait, I dont have to do it.
But I want to see the look on my fat *** nephews who are Kuwaitis, oh baby.
first off,Once your paperwork went though, your *** will be dragged in.
some idiots here saying that Pakistan should follow suit.If done, this will be disasterous as i am sure there will be mutiny in the army. The Balochi's and Muhajirs will start it.
However, conscription for punjabi's is a good idea though

Troll, before you start spurring nonsense and writing "Khaleeji" this and that then realize this simple fact that Saudi Arabians are not so-called Khaleeji Arabs nor do we even speak a Khaleeji dialect of Arabic nor is our culture a Khaleeji one.
Now run along elsewhere to troll.
@Aeronaut please deal with this trolling.
Thank you.

I could write a book regarding KSA and its history or that of the Arabian Peninsula, Arab world, Semitic civilizations etc. but this is not the topic. The fact that you do not even know this simple thing tells me a lot and that you are probably not well versed about the region and mostly listen to propaganda.
Your "analysis" is not fitting for this thread and I suggest making a thread called "Saudi Arabia dajjal" where you can tell about your brilliant theories. I am sure that a lot of users will love that to happen. But we do not care about such lunatic theories.
This thread is about compulsory military service for men in the UAE. What has what you are blabbering about got to do with this news?
