Who sends their work to someone else without making another copy? Indian Tejas was delayed by sanctions because India had the idea of leapfrogging whereby India develops some parts and imports some other and eventually indigenises everything. This was hit because of sanctions. But Indian work continued.As someone following Tejas' history from here, the LCA program was scuttled due to sanctions and refusal to return India's own research work submitted to Boeing for consulting purposes. India needs to put pressure on domestic production.
I am sure there are geniuses out there who are not being utilized correctly.
Kaveri was meant to have 78kN and it has 81kN. This is success. India has said many times that dry version will be used in development of AURA/Ghatak 5th generation UAV. The dry version is the core of the engine and its completion means that engine is ready. But Kaveri won't be used in Tejas as Tejas design changed to become slightly bigger. Also, now, Tejas MK1 is considered as too small and hence limited to small production number only to gain expertise in manufacturing. So, there is no need to change engine from F404 to Kaveri and create logistica problems. India will stop Tejas MK1 production by 2025 and start Tejas MK2 production. It makes no sense to use Kaveri engine for small duration.Don't be self delusion. Kaveri until now is still a failure. No demonstrated as a usable and operational engine on Tejas or anyother fighter jets.
AL3FP claiming as licenses product is a myth. Many core parts are still needed to be imported from Russia with final assemble in India as domestic product engine. No country is stupid enough to all full TOT for a decent class jet engine no matter how much u paid.
End of the day, India learn nothing much from this license produced scheme. More of the hardwork still need to be produced by India themselves which until now has not materialise. India missed the boat of getting Ukraine to join them in such bid as Chinese has already rope them in with their tech and engineerers. These left Indian without much choice. France and UK will still be just another US with strict off limit for crucial TOT or share knowledge for high end jet engine.
Al31FP is fully India made without imports. Even China has Al31F engines technology. The technology was given because when Russian economy was hit by USSR dissolution, and India and China helped by giving loans and sharing their industry to make goods for Russia which was otherwise scattered in the former USSR republics which had split away.
Ukraine may have had some technology, but it was limited to making big engine for ships. India does not have dearth of talent but does not have design. Even talented people still need time to make designs that work. India has already made Kaveri as I mentioned above and is already developing 110lkN engine for Tejas MK2 and AMCA. India does not rely on some one else and is developing on its own just like others did. France is only selling Rafale airframe design and India will fit Kaveri in it (just like Rafale fit F404 in 990s test trial). France isn't giving any technology
