In meetings with PM Imran and COAS, US senators assert maintaining 'broad-based' ties with Pakistan
5 - 6 minutes

A delegation of US senators separately met Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Saturday, asserting America's commitment to maintaining "stable and broad-based" ties and strengthening diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan.

The four-member delegation was headed by Senator Angus King and comprised Senator Richard Burr, Senator John Cornyn and Senator Ben Sasse. All these senators are members of the US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, while Senator King is also a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the premier underlined in the meeting that Pakistan valued its long-standing relationship with the US and was committed to expanding it in all spheres, particularly in the economic dimension.

The prime minister expressed the hope that visits by delegations from the US Congress to Pakistan would help strengthen mutual understanding between the two countries and forge closer people-to-people contacts, the PMO said in a statement.

"The PM (prime minister) reiterated that a deeper and stronger partnership between the two countries was mutually beneficial and critical for the region’s peace, security and prosperity."

With regards to the evolving situation in Afghanistan, the PMO statement said, Prime Minister Imran emphasised the need for "deeper engagement" between the US and Pakistan "to promote the shared objectives of peace, stability and economic development" in the war-torn country.

He particularly underscored the "urgent need to support the Afghan people by taking all possible measures to prevent a humanitarian crisis and economic collapse," the statement added.

Moreover, the premier highlighted the importance of "closer cooperation to address the security threats in the region, including terrorism".

"He stressed that the US must play its role in the maintenance of regional peace and stability" and assured the delegation that for its part, Pakistan was prepared to pursue measures that would reinforce peace, stability and prosperity in the region, provided that an enabling environment was created by India.

In this regard, he also informed the delegation about continuous "egregious human rights violations" in Indian-occupied Kashmir and highlighted that the "extremist and exclusionist policies" of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which the premier said was inspired by Hindu nationalist group Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

For their part, the US senators recalled the "collective struggles of Pakistan and the US" over the past decades for promoting peace and security globally, according to the PMO statement.

"The senators deeply appreciated Pakistan’s recent contribution in the evacuation of American nationals and others from Afghanistan post 15 August," when the Taliban seized Kabul, and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining "stable and broad-based" bilateral relations with Pakistan.

They also emphasised that, given the size of Pakistan’s population and its geostrategic location, the US and Pakistan "should make determined efforts for promoting trade, investment and economic cooperation".
Meeting with COAS

The US senators, along with the US Charge d’ Affaires to Pakistan, also met COAS General Bajwa, according to a statement issued by the military's media affairs wing.

The statement by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that matters of mutual interest, the security situation in Afghanistan and bilateral cooperation in various fields were discussed during the meeting.

"The COAS said that Pakistan desires to maintain productive bilateral engagement with all regional players and wishes for peaceful, diversified, sustained relations," the statement said, adding that General Bajwa also stressed urgent global convergence on Afghanistan to avoid a looming humanitarian crisis there.

He also emphasised the need for coordinated efforts for the economic uplift of the Afghan people, the statement said.

"The COAS thanked the senators for their efforts in forging a mutual understanding of the geo-political and security situation in view of challenges ahead."

The visiting dignitaries, the statement added, appreciated Pakistan’s role vis-a-vis Afghanistan, special efforts for border management and its role in regional stability.

They pledged to play their part in strengthening diplomatic cooperation between the US Pakistan at all levels.

Analysis
The old US formula doesn't work, US has been applying it for several years. Keep listening 'Absolutely Not' from Pakistan, it makes America reconsider its policy toward Pakistan, and they realize US current policy puts Pakistan far away from home.

F**K OFF america!

CIA is already paying these groups, this is clear from these documents

Just look at naya daur coverage or the assorted media. Who there targets are and what are American objectives.

The gullible here don't understnd.
Why did the prime minister of Pakistan even bother to meet some "senators" from another country?

The meeting came immediately after Pakistan refusal to attend the sham summit.

Pakistan retrietrated what it said during the press release.

Look at their dogs go berserk from naya daur to hundreds of such proclaimed free media human rights funded entities.

I think it is about time that we stop this bad old practice of the Pakistani coas meeting with anyone other than their military counterparts from other countries.

Very counterproductive. COAS is holding one meeting. The civilian leaders are holding their own meetings. We can't have this.

The Americans are snakes. On the one hand they will berate Pakistan 24/7 with all kinds of anti-democracy accusations. Yet, these snakes will be the first to shake hands seperately with COAS and PM. The duplicity of the Americans has no limit. A wolf in sheep's clothing.

It is about time we told the Americans very clearly that we reject their duplicity.

Folks, this is not a 11th hour visit, it was planned ahead in days if not weeks if not mistaken. Following the protocol. the itinerary most likely was submitted to MoFA and was in all likelihood approved to grant access to the individuals including the CoAS.

Pak could have easily said no to CoAS and or could have send him ( CoAS ) to KSA, Iran or China etc. for a urgent 3 day visit as a face save notion to make excuse that he is not available.

Access to CoAS was allowed as the Gov't saw a reason for it ( it would have been same no matter who the sitting PM could have been, naming ( 'NS, BB, Mr. 10%, or their off-springs') It is just the draw back of 'Pakistan's corridor of power.'

PS: This is a Policy Maker team ( Legislative branch, ) doesn't mean they reflect the views of ( Executive Branch. ) You need to have balance dealing with both to get things done. Having good relationship with Legislative Branch means that you can have people who could push legislation in your favor and help block the ones against you, long before they make it to the Executive Branch.

Having access or meeting with individual shouldn't be an issue since we can emphasis on far more bigger picture behind these meetings. Just look at regional interests & changing of strategical game plays and try to understand the real game.

Possibly,
Iran is the topic since Israel wanted US to attack but couldn't succeed as of yet. Eventually, Pakistan will be the target in larger game whereby US will somehow play dirty games while Israel will be the main sponsor behind screen and Gulfies will do the rest exactly playing into the hands of US.

Access & influence in Afghanistan is warranted to keep a check on Russia & China as well and keep the region unstable so that US rivals have more worries new home but in the end, first victim will be made out of Pakistan.

China to be contained by US by patting & arming India but Pakistan position is stronger since, offering a lot to stay aside while sending peanuts to compromise a bit on CPEC and relieve India off any pressure so that Nazi state can concentrate a bit more against China to destabilize and create pressure. However, still the target is Pakistan.

Why target is Pakistan? Well everyone is interested in own gains & losses. Given Pakistan position for many reasons; this country is the top of interest if anyone wants to rule the region or keep maximum pressure. The bloc is already announced like a divorce is filed yet not finalized still in a hope of revision on such decision and coming back to normal with US. However, everything in the past is clear and policy makers aren't that blind unless the sell-outs are happily readying for their luxury life post service in Pakistan.

Why shouldn't Pakistan ignore the threat or treat it as a threat? Just look at the political unrest, the continuous propaganda inland based upon either religious provocation, extremism or in the name of freedom of speech or by way of human rights etc etc as you name it. They will pay for everything that could help in chaos or unrest resulting in a weak Governance that will somehow take a bow and surrender to pressure of any mean that could work.
