U.S. Members of Senate Armed Services Committee in Pakistan

.

No coincidence. After the democracy summit happening this was bound to happen. This is what the Americans always do. When they don't have it their way they simply come and pay a visit. The Americans can't afford to let Pakistan slip into the China camp. No matter what anyone says, this is the bitter truth. The Americans are working day and night to weaken and isolate China in every way possible. Pakistan is a big part of the puzzle that is really nagging the Americans. No secret that CPEC has been at the receiving end where US officials have pleaded to Pakistanis.

Pakistan needs to make it abundantly clear to the Americans. China is without a shadow of a doubt priority number 1 for Pakistan. The Americans are shrewd bastards that are enabling and empowering India. At the same time the Yanks want Pakistan to abandon China. This is wishful thinking by the Yanks. The Yanks have played duplicitous games for too long. Pakistan shouldn't fall for American charm offensive. An empty gesture only meant to further empower India.

ISLAMABAD: The army chief on Saturday told a delegation of US senators that Pakistan wished to maintain "productive bilateral relations" with all the regional players, suggesting that Islamabad did not want to join any bloc in an increasingly bipolar world where the Americans were desperately making efforts to counter the rise of China.

Members of the US Senate committees on armed services and intelligence, headed by Senator Angus King, are on a visit to Pakistan amid concerns that the Americans may once again ditch Islamabad after its exit from Afghanistan.

The delegation also includes Senator Richard Burr, Senator John Cornyn and Senator Ben Sasse.
The senators are visiting Islamabad at a time when US-Pakistan ties have been strained because of a number of reasons.

The China-US tussle has further complicated the relationship between the two countries.

Earlier this week, Pakistan turned down a US invitation to a summit on democracy in a decision that seemed to be linked with its close ties with China. China was not invited to the summit and strongly reacted to the US initiative.

However, despite skipping the summit, Pakistan is trying to convey a message that it is not going to join any bloc politics.

When the four-member US Senate delegation met Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood, they were told that Pakistan valued its ties with the US but that did not mean the country would ignore regional players.

According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, the army chief and the US delegation discussed matters of mutual interest, the current security situation in Afghanistan and bilateral cooperation in various fields.

As per the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief said Pakistan wanted to maintain productive bilateral engagement with all the regional players and wished for peaceful, diversified, sustained relations.

He also reiterated the urgency for global convergence on Afghanistan to avoid the looming humanitarian crisis and need for coordinated efforts for economic uplift of the Afghan people.

The COAS thanked the senators for their efforts in forging mutual understanding of geo political and security situation in view of challenges ahead.

The visiting dignitaries appreciated Pakistan’s role in the Afghan situation, special efforts for border management, role in regional stability and pledged to play their part for furthering diplomatic cooperation with Islamabad at all levels.

Separately, Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood welcomed the delegation to Pakistan and underscored that Islamabad valued its long-standing relationship with Washington. He added that the country wanted to further deepen bilateral ties with US based on shared interests.

He emphasised that deeper engagement between the two countries was pivotal for peace, security and development in the region.

Highlighting Pakistan’s significance to geo-economics, the foreign secretary said Pakistan welcomed enhanced bilateral trade and greater investments from the US.

He hoped that US companies would reap dividends from Pakistan’s emerging market status.
The foreign secretary briefed the senators on the serious humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.

He underscored that the international community must help the Afghan people avert the crisis through immediate support and financial assistance.

He stressed the importance of release of Afghanistan’s frozen financial resources. The secretary also informed the visiting delegation about Pakistan’s efforts to mobilise international support through multiple regional and international mechanisms and in this context, mentioned the extraordinary session of the OIC council of foreign ministers being hosted in Islamabad.

The secretary also briefed the delegation about unabated gross human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and underscored that the US Congress must play its due role in this regard.

The senators, acknowledging the importance of long-standing Pakistan-US ties, affirmed the desire to further strengthen the bilateral relationship in its myriad dimensions.

The senators appreciated Pakistan’s role in the evacuation of US nationals and others from Afghanistan post-15 August this year. They stressed the importance of closer cooperation to support the objectives for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.

Pathetic.

A military man hob knobbing with foreign politicians would never be tolerated in any country effectively governed. Only in Pakistan. Sad!!! What the Chief does not realize is that he is undermining the very national institutions he is meant to protect.

Donning his plad jacket and enjoying evenings with US Senators (the same ones who arm and support India) - while our young men are killed by Indian supported BLA/BRA. Makes me sick watching this. US policy is directly opposed to Pakistan's national security, in every way possible.

On a serious note, both sides will exchange views on TPS 77 MRR radar, sending PAF pilots to U.S. programs while strong bilateral relationship and cooperation will be mentioned in press release.

I doubt we will be mentioning our CSF and other funds we are entitled to being withheld by U.S. We don't have balls to mention them in press release at least. Soon, perhaps we will stop mentioning Kashmir as an issue in bilateral or multilateral press releases too.
Why to mention kashmir with a failed ex supa power ?

It's a textbook example of institutions not staying in their lanes and, ultimately, eroding the legitimacy and respect of the state from the top. It's easy to blame TLP et. al, but they're just one-half of the raggedy cloth. We have a lot of guys calling the nation to 'respect the state' yet other than a few, no one is walking their talk. This is no way to earn leadership.

In meetings with PM Imran and COAS, US senators assert maintaining 'broad-based' ties with Pakistan
5 - 6 minutes

A delegation of US senators separately met Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Saturday, asserting America's commitment to maintaining "stable and broad-based" ties and strengthening diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan.

The four-member delegation was headed by Senator Angus King and comprised Senator Richard Burr, Senator John Cornyn and Senator Ben Sasse. All these senators are members of the US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, while Senator King is also a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the premier underlined in the meeting that Pakistan valued its long-standing relationship with the US and was committed to expanding it in all spheres, particularly in the economic dimension.

The prime minister expressed the hope that visits by delegations from the US Congress to Pakistan would help strengthen mutual understanding between the two countries and forge closer people-to-people contacts, the PMO said in a statement.

"The PM (prime minister) reiterated that a deeper and stronger partnership between the two countries was mutually beneficial and critical for the region’s peace, security and prosperity."

With regards to the evolving situation in Afghanistan, the PMO statement said, Prime Minister Imran emphasised the need for "deeper engagement" between the US and Pakistan "to promote the shared objectives of peace, stability and economic development" in the war-torn country.

He particularly underscored the "urgent need to support the Afghan people by taking all possible measures to prevent a humanitarian crisis and economic collapse," the statement added.

Moreover, the premier highlighted the importance of "closer cooperation to address the security threats in the region, including terrorism".

"He stressed that the US must play its role in the maintenance of regional peace and stability" and assured the delegation that for its part, Pakistan was prepared to pursue measures that would reinforce peace, stability and prosperity in the region, provided that an enabling environment was created by India.

In this regard, he also informed the delegation about continuous "egregious human rights violations" in Indian-occupied Kashmir and highlighted that the "extremist and exclusionist policies" of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which the premier said was inspired by Hindu nationalist group Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

For their part, the US senators recalled the "collective struggles of Pakistan and the US" over the past decades for promoting peace and security globally, according to the PMO statement.

"The senators deeply appreciated Pakistan’s recent contribution in the evacuation of American nationals and others from Afghanistan post 15 August," when the Taliban seized Kabul, and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining "stable and broad-based" bilateral relations with Pakistan.

They also emphasised that, given the size of Pakistan’s population and its geostrategic location, the US and Pakistan "should make determined efforts for promoting trade, investment and economic cooperation".
Meeting with COAS

The US senators, along with the US Charge d’ Affaires to Pakistan, also met COAS General Bajwa, according to a statement issued by the military's media affairs wing.

The statement by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that matters of mutual interest, the security situation in Afghanistan and bilateral cooperation in various fields were discussed during the meeting.

"The COAS said that Pakistan desires to maintain productive bilateral engagement with all regional players and wishes for peaceful, diversified, sustained relations," the statement said, adding that General Bajwa also stressed urgent global convergence on Afghanistan to avoid a looming humanitarian crisis there.

He also emphasised the need for coordinated efforts for the economic uplift of the Afghan people, the statement said.

"The COAS thanked the senators for their efforts in forging a mutual understanding of the geo-political and security situation in view of challenges ahead."

The visiting dignitaries, the statement added, appreciated Pakistan’s role vis-a-vis Afghanistan, special efforts for border management and its role in regional stability.

They pledged to play their part in strengthening diplomatic cooperation between the US Pakistan at all levels.

Analysis
The old US formula doesn't work, US has been applying it for several years. Keep listening 'Absolutely Not' from Pakistan, it makes America reconsider its policy toward Pakistan, and they realize US current policy puts Pakistan far away from home.
