I think there will be many foreigners dead, as the terrorists managed to get into the terminal building.
There's no easy answer, but Muslim countries need to start clamping down hard on hate preachers. Yes, even those that preach hate against westerners/Israel/Jews etc., because that hate comes back to bite you too.
There needs to be a separation of Islam from politics. Religion is a personal choice and personal affair. Islam has been far too politicised and now its ideological political faction is armed and ready to kill for a 'caliphate'.
Re-education is needed to teach the spiritual side of Islam and forget the politics.
Anyway, this isn't the time for this discussion.
RIP to the dead and condolences to the Turkish people.
I'm off to bed.
First of all, get your agenda away from this thread and respect the victims. From the beginning, you've been cleaning up image of PKK, which commits similar terrorist attacks, just not common in international airports. You defend them and try legitimizing their efforts as if you have some investment in them.
Second, most of the victims were local Turks. And even 'foreigners' can be Middle Eastern people born in the West with European or American citizenship. Yet you're racing to push this as some Muslim conspiracy against the West/Israel. Firstly, Israeli's are semitic peoples(as they claim, otherwise claim to Israel is moot), that are also Middle Eastern people. Israeli's can live like Western people or adopt their ideals, but that doesn't make them part of Western civilization. So let's take a break on the 'Israel/West' vs East thing. It only exists in your head, especially in modern globalized world.
And of course you pitched in the part about censoring opposition to Israel, which is what you're looking for. Then you also don't understand that ISIS is not a result of preaching, nor mainstream preachers, and this is coming from an atheist. It's people that want to reinstitute religion as model as opposed to secularism, that don't use religious justification for their attacks. They rather go with eye for eye approach to anyone getting in way of their quest. And they'll continue fighting for it, until the conflicts in Syria/Iraq come to an end. Of course they will retain some influence to conduct other attacks in future, which is sad case of peoples of the region being neglected, as well as losing patience over this negligence.
So you need to get lost right now, keep your personal agenda to yourself, and know that your realities or narratives only exist in your head and won't be implemented in real world.
Absolute majority of Sunnis are against these terror groups obviously, but yes, a dangerously big minority (even 1% of 1.2 billion people is just too much) either support or sympathize with them which is the whole root of problem. This needs raising a new generation, preventing hate preachers from infiltrating the countries and also capturing those working online and many more things to do.
Bringing Sunni's into every thread is getting old now. I get that you're trying to make clear to foreigners that Shia's are separate entities that have different principles/beliefs, but it's not needed right now. Singling out people in the region based on religious background is not something a secular person should promote, nor should you have bias against Sunni's who have legitimate grievances. And I'm an atheist as you now by know. And it's sad that I have to keep reminding people that I'm an atheist, had I said I was a Sunni Muslim, I would be discredited and belittled immediately. Even as an atheist, I don't agree with that attitude towards Sunni's. And you as a Muslim, shouldn't raise up issues with one sect at a sensitive moment like this.
