Channel 92, a private TV channel, came forward on Friday to take credit as the construction of the first ever temple in Islamabad was stopped by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) citing legal reasons.
“Owing to successful efforts of 92 News, the CDA stopped the construction of a temple in Islamabad,” it said in its piece published yesterday. The move comes as a team of CDA officials visited the site and told the workers to halt the construction. According to them, the structure can be built once its design is approved as per the building plan.
Prime Minister Imran Khan is expected to direct the religious affairs ministry to send the summary of the grant for the temple to the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), seeking advice. On the other hand, the ministry said that it would only renovate a place of worship of the religious minorities and would not build a new one. It added that the decision to build the temple would be taken keeping in view all religious aspects. The spokesperson added that the state will ensure protection of the rights of minorities.
On June 27, Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved Rs 100 million for the construction of the first ever temple for the Hindi community in Islamabad. The PM held a meeting with Minister for Religious Affairs Pir Noorul Haq Qadri in this regard.
