Turkish Tank Sees Pakistani, Saudi Interest.

thats $3 billion. and thats just $6 million each! what if you want the tech as well? and the cost of setting the factory up as well. $3 billion is just under half of pakistans defence budget. and they just brought 5 billions worth of subs only last year.
but i think its worth saying the coas saw a bit more than the ak1

I don't know, but why am I drawn to the vehicles in the background? They look like ... MRAP?

As for Pakistan's reported interest in the Altay, small batch orders over the medium to long-term could be had feasibly, question is, why? I'm not disputing that there's a need, just trying to understand exactly where a heavyweight MBT like this would fit in the PA.

I've been telling people from day one that Pakistan will buy this tank or a version of it from day one. It gives the army unparalleled armoured strength, a tank that is on par with the best Western tanks and from one of its dear allies i.e. the threat of sanctions etc isn't there.
I hope to see close to 500. The rest can be Al-Khalid versions, making up a force of more than 2,700.
Actually I now agree with you because when I talked to people they said only problem with heavy tanks are transportation but most of Army is almost placed on Pakistan India border so transporting it won't be a bigger issue.

The sanctions risk is still there since Altay using foreign engine, Pakistan may wait till 1800HP locally design Turkish engine available. Our Al Khalid II also waiting for reliable source of engine since situation in Ukraine quite worse.
The best option is jointly develop Al Khalid II by mixing Altay and Al Khalid tech with Turkish 1800HP engine.

Otokar General Manager Serdar Görgüç has announced that the company is considering the development of an electric engine for the Altay. Görgüç stated that an electric engine would reduce the ability of the enemy to identify the tank with thermal cameras in the battle field. He added that "Vehicles with internal combustion can be caught on thermal cameras". Otokar developed an electric engine for its buses and is working on retrofitting its design to the Altay tank.

I don't know about the Pakistanis, but KSA will probably buy M1A2 Sep v3

unless Altay is significantly better and cheaper

only thing Abrams is missing is APS
They will go for Altay if Turkey helps them build it in Saudi Arabia with licence. Also, buying it would mean that unlike Abrams, they don't get dumbed down versions (in order to give Israel a technological advantage) but the best of it. Also, Turkey is investing in its own APS and Altay will have it. Not to mention it would be much cheaper than the M1A2.

View attachment 287311 ANKARA — A number of countries Turkey views as “allies” are interested in buying what will become Turkey’s first indigenous new generation main battle tank, the Altay, the top procurement official has said.

Ismail Demir, head of the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) said during a presentation in parliament that including Pakistan and the Gulf countries with which Turkey has good political relations were showing a large interest in the Altay.

“Lately, we have seen that Saudi Arabia’s interest was big,” he said.

He said that Turkey invited officials from these countries to the ongoing firing tests for the Altay. “The tests, meanwhile, are extremely satisfying,” Demir said.

The SSM officials said at the briefing that five prototypes of the tank have been produced and succeeded in tests in different spots across Turkey.

The Altay will soon go through winter tests in Sarikamis district in eastern Turkey. That district is well-known for its challenging winter conditions.

SSM is expected this year to announce a bidding for the Altay’s serial production.

Potential bidders are three local armored vehicle makers: Otokar, the Altay’s designer and the producer of its prototypes, BMC and FNSS.
Its a must buy, it takes the best out of one of the two most deadliest MBTs the K2 and the Leopard. It will also help Turkey's defense industry out.

@Zarvan what problems to you see if these tanks are taken to battle field on their own and what advantages ( other then fuel economy) we get by transporting these tanks through transporters

Tanks are most transfered through Trains and our trains aren't developed yet to carry such heavy loads other problems @Sulman Badshah and @Dazzler and @DESERT FIGHTER can explain best

It is a nice Tank ...Pakistan needs it and it should be bought by Pakistan initially 500 and modify it according to its requirements... Pakistani engineers in HIT do have expertise to modify it ...

Heavy tanks need a proper infrastructure and transportation.. Our railway bridges and railway isn't capable enough to carry those heavy tanks at good speed..

Before inducting heavy tanks Pakistan should wait for modernization of railway first ... Which is currently undergoing ..
