Turkey's Defense industry to deliver the country's first indigenous submarine to Turkish Armed Forces by 2023; construction of the 'hidden' giant is going at full speed.

After the construction of the Turkish Defense industry's "hidden giant," the new type submarine project (NTSP) that aimed to procure six new Type Submarines which have an Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) System has begun.

Gölcük Naval Shipyard

The project would cost a total of 2.7 billion dollars, to be provided by a domestic fund.

The new type submarines would be capable of producing their own energy automatically using a mechanism of the reaction of hydrogen and oxygen tanks in the underwater giant. This system allows the vehicle to stay under water without atmospheric air for long periods of time.

According to the project, Turkey's domestic submarine can make a round-trip journey from Turkey to the US without refueling.

It can stay as long as 15 days under water.

The national submarine project is supported by Turkey's largest defense companies, including HAVELSAN, ASELSAN, TÜBİTAK, STM AŞ, AYES AŞ, Milsoft, Meteksan Savunma and Koç Bilgi Savunma.

According to Turkey's Undersecretariat of Defense Industries (SSM), the project aims to maximize local content. It also aims to acquire knowledge and experience in submarine construction, integration and systems.

Whuaat?! :flame:
Refering to Type214 ,Reis Class Submarines.

How long does it take from Turkey to the US by this submarine ?

15 days under water to The USA? or
It can arrive To the USA on the sea not under?

Most likely underwater avarage speed of modern subs are usually 20-25 knot underwater and 5-6 knot on surface.Subs made after WW2 always made to be fast underwater while its exact opposite for pre-WW2 subs.

USS Pennsylvania, Ohio Class SSBN - nice.

How long does it take from Turkey to the US by this submarine ?

At 22 knots, it takes vessel 6 days to reach Rotterdam from New York. Turkey, being farther, means we should tack on another day or two.

This means most nuclear submarines, with both the range to cross the 7000km distance from the US to Europe, and moving at a submerged speed of around 20 knots average, could make the journey.

An LA can make the journey in that time running at a submerged speed in excess of 20 knots, though operationally they don't do that unless in a hurry. It broadcasts too much noise.

Conventional submarines and AIP designs have the speed. A Type 214 can hit 20 knots submerged, and a Kilo Class can hit 25 knots.

Sounds good right? Realistically, they lack the range to make it to the US running at 20 knots, though they do have the range when running near-surface.

Take the Kilo Class:

The range at certain speeds is vastly different

  • With snorkel: 6,000–7,500 nmi (11,100–13,900 km; 6,900–8,600 mi) at 7 kn (13 km/h; 8.1 mph)
  • Submerged: 400 nmi (740 km; 460 mi) at 3 kn (5.6 km/h; 3.5 mph)
  • Full run: 12.7 nmi (23.5 km; 14.6 mi) at 21 kn (39 km/h; 24 mph)
And here's the range profile for the Scorpene Class AIP subs:

  • 6,500 nmi (12,000 km) at 8 kn (15 km/h; 9.2 mph) (surfaced)
  • 550 nmi (1,020 km; 630 mi) at 5 kn (9.3 km/h; 5.8 mph) (submerged)

At 20 knots, which each sub type can hit, they'd lack the range needed to reach the US. At a slower speed they have the range, but the trip would take longer to make.

So can the Turkish boat reach the US in 15 days? At full speed, no, they'd lack the range and run out of endurance too quickly. At a reduced speed? It'll take longer, but 15 days is doable.

Ok guys thanks.
But i didnt likely ask the right question.

What is the submerged range of Type 214 ?
What is the range with snorkel ?
Type 214 can produce air to burn fuel.

Which is why The USA dont use and produce non-nuclear diesel subs.

Type 214 submarine

Propulsion: Diesel-electric, fuel cell AIP, low noise skew back propeller

Speed:

- 12 kt surfaced

- 20 kt submerged

Range:

- 12,000 miles (19,300 km) (surfaced)

- 420 nmi (780 km) @ 8 kt (submerged)

- 1,248 nmi (2,311 km) @ 4 kt (submerged)

Endurance: 84 days

... Which is why The USA dont use and produce non-nuclear diesel subs.

Virginia-class submarine

Propulsion:
S9G reactor 40,000 shp (30,000 kW)

Speed: 25 knots (46 km/h) or over

Range: unlimited

Endurance : Only limited by food and maintenance requirements

Why ? For an unnecessary waste of time and money... When you already have a vehicle that allows you to move hidden to any point on the globe (70 percent of the Earth) at very high speed, so virtually undetectable, without needing to surface and this unlimited.

I hope they added VLS or its useless. Look at the Russian Navy They can fire cruise missiles from smaller ships. What we gonna do with Milgem?

Why it is useless without VLS ? Enlighten us a bit dude...

Look to the Russia, USa, France, Germany, Italy all navies in the world. Even Israel have the capability. And what we are doin? Spending lots of money to ships that cant hit air and ground targets.

really what can we do with Milgem? Only naval war not more.

OK ! Have a look at similar role corvette/frigate projects

USA USS Freedom
Russia Project 20380
China F-22P

Those states have also spent money on corvettes having similar armament planning with Milgem. Really What can they do with them ?
