Turkish Missile Programs

I have a good question for you ;

Sage officalls say Gökdoğan bvr missile have 65 km aroun range and Fire and forget capability. So that means missile gives a coordinates target first and launch after that he can pass allway his active radar seeker.
That means gökdoğan active radar seeker range is 65 km .

Also missile have target editing capabilty after launch for thi capability missile must have rf datalink.

So

Aim-120C-7 like missiles cant pass all way with his active radar seeker, they ares pass half of a way with rf datalink + ins and after that he's turning bulldog/pitbull mode and continue way with his active radar seeker.

İs it possible Gökdoğan bvr missile range is around 100-120 km ? Maybe his active guided range is 65 km but his maximum range can be more. Maybe gökdoğan can be pass 50-60 km with his rf datalink and after they can be use his active warhead.

Maybe officals dont give this info to us for security problems. Many guys says is the past gökdoğan is a c-7 equivalent and also we have not much more c-7 and we needded that kind of missile maybe we wait gökdoğan for that.


BVR range factor is not only about capability of active radar homing guidance but also other kynetic energy figures of aircraft, target and distance between objects. The figure that is introduced with 65km is the NEZ figure of Gökdoğan. The situation can be summarized as following.

  • Above Rmax: Pilot should not launch missile, no chance of success.
  • Between Rmax and Rmax2: Reasonable chance of successfully intercepting the target.
  • Between Rmax2 and Rmin2: No escape zone, almost 100% chance of successfully intercepting the target.
  • Between Rmin2 and Rmin: Reasonable chance of successfully intercepting the target.
  • Below Rmin: Missile will not launch due to the safety of the pilot being threatened.

NEZ and Rmax ranges are dynamic figures and mostly about kynetic energy of missiles. Weapon engagement zone is based on some parameters: target heading, shooter pitch, target altitude, shooter altitude, target angle off-boresight, target velocity, and shooter velocity. Mission computer calculates the NEZ, WEZ ranges in accordance to parameters received from radar and inform the pilot bia HUD.

Bro, All active radar homing missiles uses similar principles. In theory, they are fire/forget missiles but in fact, they are not used in that way. They have a limited thermal battery capacity to provide energy for seeker head in long ranges. Active homing seekers have both transmitter and receiver modules compared to semi-active and passive seekers so their power consumption is bigger than others. If pilots wants to switch on seeker head at first seconds of firing, The thermal batteries can not sustain the power requirements of seeker modules until the missile reached the engagement point. Furthermore, It is impossible a small radar on seeker head can track on targets staying tens/hundred of km away so active homing missiles have a terminal phase that seeker head were switched on by computers based on the remained time where the missile and target will touch. Up to terminal phase, The aircrafts guide the missile via midcourse guidance.

On the other hand if we accept your claim, how this missile can be fire and forgetable if him taking data from aircraft until terminal phase.

TEMREN will probably end up being installed on Aksungurs. The Aksungur will apparently be used for hunting down submarines. So surely an anti-anti-ship Aksungur is on the cards.

We will see big number of MPA Aksungur(maritime patrol aircraft version) in navy’s inventory with temren som c1/c2

The UMTAS missiles are different from The missiles which are at the helicopter in the photo.

Both missiles have Two different fin design.
There are American Hellfires and Turkish UMTAS, What you mean?

Fire and forget missiles are only in ATGM class with sub 10km range (generally less than 5km) using IIR seekers which need less energy than radar seekers on BVR missiles. There is no fire and forget BVRAAM

It seems we’re in need of these amram missiles, and they’re probably cheap. But I thought bozdogan was ready and just needed mass production.
Turkish air to air missiles will be fully operational by 2020 or in worst case in 2021 my only question is about the engine probably there’s ongoing almost ready domestic secret engine program otherwise it would be stupid from ismail demir to claim mass production
