Turkey's first cell tower system for GSM networks will begin to provide service in April, the vice director general of the system’s main developer ASELSAN, Yavuz Bayiz said on Thursday.

The new station for cellphone networks, called ULAK, boasts 750 signed orders, the vice director general of ASELSAN, which generally produces electronic defense systems for the Turkish army.

“Due to the fast development of technology, secure communications have started to have a strategic importance. With ULAK, our communications system will be more secure,” Bayiz told Anadolu Agency on the last of the four-day World Mobile Congress in Barcelona.

The first cell tower system, due to be operational in April, will be located in northeastern Rize province.

Bayiz said 1,799 ULAK units would be set up in mostly rural areas in order to upgrade from 2G to 4.5G, developed by the largest Turkish GSM operator Turkcell.

The ULAK tower system was developed in cooperation with Turkish telecommunications company NETAS and service provider ARGELA under the supervision of the Defense Industry Undersecratariat.

Turkish companies, which have also taken important steps in defense industry, have now achieved two important successes abroad. Canovate, one of Turkey's well-established industrial companies, purchased the world-famous British security firm Body Armor. Active in thermal camera, body armor and ballistic products, the company is the most important body armor supplier for American and British militaries.

Canovate Chairman Can Gür noted that they will shift the company's production facilities from Manchester, England to Istanbul's Çekmeköy.

Recently, Canovate has successfully landed the largest fiber infrastructure contract in Greece. It has also overtaken six American, Chinese, and German companies to move up to the big leagues in worldwide production of fiber optics and data centers. The project aims to reach close to two million users within three years.

Turkey Develops Sodium Borohydride Fuel Cell Car

Hydro Kevin Kantola November 9, 2011 Hydrogen Cars Leave a comment 252 Views

This won’t be the first time I’ve talked turkey about Turkey. In July 2011, I had spoken about how Turkey had built the EkoKaravan that runs off a variety of energy sources including hydrogen. Turkish engineers had also built the SAHIMO hydrogen car and an H2 refueling station as well.

Now, with Thanksgiving only a few weeks away it’s time to talk Turkey again. Unlike most other hydrogen cars on the road this one is special. Most of today’s H2 cars run on compressed hydrogen gas or a few run on cryogenic liquid hydrogen.

The new car developed in Turkey runs off sodium borohydride (NaBH4), a hydrogen rich chemical carrier for H2. Borohydride is made from the chemical element boron of which Turkey owns 70-percent of the world’s supply.

So, it only makes sense that a country rich in boron would develop a fuel cell vehicle made from a borohydride (there are different varieties such as sodium borohydride, lithium borohydride, etc.).

According to the Hurriyet Daily News, “Turkey, the land of boron minerals, has a considerable capacity of refined borates besides being the biggest borate ore producer of the world. Although 71 percent of the reserves are in Turkey, about 92 percent of the production is exported worldwide and 8 percent is used domestically, according to BOREN data.”

So, you see, Turkey is not only developing a product with their fuel cell car but they are also a unique supplier for the fuel for this car. This reminds me of the manufacturers of small desktop printers who make more money selling ink than they do in the printers themselves.

So, if Turkey plays their cards right (or cars right) they will be able sometime in the future to export fuel cell cars and the fuel to countries eager to step into the 21st century.

TERRAFLITE

TerraFlite: GPS’in Alternatifi Olarak Milli Bir Sistem
Arabalarımızda, telefonlarımızda kullandığımız “Küresel Konumlandırma Sistemi” kısa adıyla GPS sistemine alternatif olacak ve böylelikle bu alandaki bağımlılığı sonlandıracak TerraFlite isimli milli bir çözüm geliştirildi.

Ülkemizde yerli çalışmalara imza atan Savunma Teknolojileri ve Mühendisliği (STM) mühendisleri, yaptıkları Ar-Ge çalışmalarıyla beraber GPS’in eksiklerini kapatan, hassas şekilde ölçüm yapan yerli bir konumlandırma sistemi tasarladı.

TerraFlite Nedir?

As far as I know Turkey doesn't posses the necessary knowledge to refine Boron, so it's the raw stuff we're exporting, which means we get way less than what we could if we could process it.

One thing I remember Boron can be used for is to cool down nuclear power plants/process, e.g. Fukushima Daichi because Boron is so heavy (I might remember wrong here), but Japan didn't have enough Boron to do this, so they ended up using Seawater.

I don't know if it's smart to develope a car that runs on Boron considering how easy it is to get your fingers on this ressource outside of Turkey. Let's assume you pay 100$ for a full tank in Turkey, what do you have to pay in Greece, Italy, China ?

I see these projects as "bragging rights" no one takes it seriously, but some ppl have a need to brag about something. When you think of Turkey still doesn't have a factory that mass produces domestic car, and they make something like this ? I can help ask, did you buy the engine too ? why not make an engine that runs on Gasoline ?

Think about it 3/4 of 600 mio. tonne. That's not a lot when you consider how much fossil fuel is used yearly.

http://www.worldwatch.org/global-fossil-fuel-consumption-surges

And when you consider the very limited amount of Bor we have it should be obvious that we're wasting it on such things as car fuel. The age of fossil fuel may be coming to an end, but the new age is going to be electricity not Bor.

It's not realistic to use Bor as car fuel because of the reasons I mentioned earlier. Also you don't need oil or gas in order to develope an engine that uses fossil fuel.

Information about NaBH4 fuel cells;

https://www.mmo.org.tr/sites/default/files/8f0b864598a1291_ek.pdf

-I'm sorry for the post before. I didn't tell everything right but did you read or understand what the link says?

- The bor isnt the fuel itself. Its a base of sodium borhydride NaBH4 mix which will be used with water as a catalyst for hydrogen electric engines. With this technique youre not burning the sodium neither the bor but instead the hydrogen.

- If you've sodium borhydride as catalyst with water, Hydrogen will be extracted and used as fuel in the vehicle.

- The amount Turkiye has is around 65%.
400 million tonnes isn't much compared to fossils. Doesn't say anything. With the production 1,5 million tonnes per year, 90% goes outside the borders and it's enough for hundreds of years. The mixture sodiumborhydride is reusable multiple times through an easy chemical process wich is perfect.

- With the developing car and the fuel this is a milestone.

Btw Bor can be used in everything. You name it.
