The High Power Microwave System, which was developed against the threat of hand-made explosives (i.e. IEDs) by the Defense Industry Presidency and ASELSAN, successfully destroyed the targets in the tests.
In order to combat IED effectively, efforts are underway in the agreement signed in January 2019 with the aim of neutralizing IED devices with high power microwave technology.
In order to enable the Turkish Land Forces Command to fight more effectively with the IED, the technology demonstration of the HPEM (High Power Electromagnetics) subsystem within the scope of the Project of Detecting and Harmonizing Electronic Circuit IED Assemblies by the Presidency of Defense Industry (SSB) and ASELSAN project in Gölbek Antenna Test Site.
The SSB, the Turkish Armed Forces and the Ministry of Internal Affairs attended the demonstration.
During the demonstration, the HPEM System successfully disrupted the different IED devices. Thus, the importance of HPEM technology in combating IED was introduced.
In addition to the IEDs, the system also performed quite successfully against mini / micro drone types.
The High Power Microwave System has been developed nationally for high-power electromagnetic radiation for a limited time through a single pulse or a series of pulses.
The electromagnetic energy produced by high-power microwave sources is used to prevent the operation of the electronic equipment that is being targeted, to be shipped to malfunction, to be damaged or to be rendered inoperable.
ASELSAN conducts a series of studies to identify and destroy IEDs.
Within the scope of these studies, previously, the elephant detection and disposal system was developed. The frequency range of the system can be adjusted according to the user request and the threat scenario.
