What's new

Turkish heavy class attack helicopter (10t) will be most capable one in Middle East and Europe

Hmm, do we need so many different gunships or it Atak 2 for exsample purely for export?
Honestly i would love to see the 10t beast in our inventory.

Edit: or is Atak 2 continuation of Atak 1 and the original Atak will die out?

Actually, It is continuation of Atak deal, but the procurement will be continued over Atak-2 instead of Atak-1. The main scope of Atak-2 program is to end dependency to Italy on export markets. I mean Turkey do not want to share $ with anybody and Noone will have a saying on Turkish machines. The original deal was ~51+40 and As far as I know production of Atak-1 will be completed in 59 and It must be 54, 55th Atak-1 under production line. When Atak-1 completed, Rest will be produced under Atak-2 configuration. Both will have similar fuselage but Atak-2 wilk have heavier weapon payload and advanced sensor/optic payload inside larger fuselage. MTOW will also be increased while national transmission and engines will be used on Atak-2 configuration.

So essentially its improved Atak 1.

. .
So that means ATAK-2 is just a fully Turkish version of the T-129 ATAK with more advanced sensors/radars/optics and better MTOW...

Meteksan marketing manager Mr. Burak gave some info about Mildar mmw radar to be placed under the body of 10t heavy class attack helicopters.

It is proved with field trials that MilDar MMW radar performs way better than US Longbow radar in terms of range, multi target tracking capabilities. Mildar is lighter and smaller than Longbow as well.

Mildar will provide many advantages to heavy weight attack helicopter with its superior performance in bad weather conditions. It will help pilots to direct electro-optic systems to the targets without spotting target with naked eye to gain valuable time for target engagement. Providing situational awareness on low altitude and bad visibility conditions are other operational advantages heavy attack helicopter will gain.

During the tests,

  • Helicopter-MilDaR (55kg) managed to reach up to a 28km range.

  • The Pulse-Doppler type LongBow radar (weighing 227kg) can detect moving ground targets at a range of 8km and stationary ground targets at a range of 6km

  • Arbalet/FH-01 MMW FCR (140kg weight + 25km detection range)

Whatever it looks like, seems a direct competitor to Boeing AH-64 Apache on the way.

Bro. Are they going to further refine the design of Mildar. Because in the 3D rendering it seems far more compact then the current version.

Also, people on other forums are complaining about how the Radar is not above rotor. They have valid points [for a type of cold war type thousand tanks charging], but overall, if we think about it, belly mounted radar is going to be more practical for terrain mapping, maintenance and ability to mount more R/F processing equipment inside for increased detection and targeting range.

The length of the 30mm cannon indicates that it will be high velocity (which is a good thing for air platforms). Higher then M230 mounted on Ah-64. But, it is a 3D rendering and we should expect more alterations of the design up until production version rolls out. But, I'm happy to see 30mm mounted instead of the 20mm, of which later has poor HE/I performance.

Is it only me or the gun is obscuring the radar ?
