We need it to protect our interests in the Mediterranean.
Not really and btw we have a aircraft carrier in the eastern Mediterranean --> KKTC.
But we don't use it, France or the US for example would sell their left nut to have an airbase on that Island.

since we will never get any jump jets, the only solution would be a CATOBAR config, light AC - period...

Not enough space on TCG Anadolu's flight deck to carry enough aircrafts, you have to reconstruct the whole flight deck. You guys dream to much do you actually know how much it costs to build an aircraft carrier? Program and construction costs. And the other question is do we have a dock big enough to build it?

I have already mentioned this in the naval thread, including numbers and examples - yes, the TCG is not much cheaper than a light AC firstly! and second - our LHD was shortened in length for a lot of money, or the launch pad was reduced - for what? otherwise, it would be possible to install CATOBAR - and third: we don't get a vertical starter, ergo 15 matching hürjets, and a few drones are still better than 5 ataks (deliberately understated)...

yes, we could talk about KKTC - but that is more unrealistic than a light AC

EDIT:

.......
edit:

Why is Turkey buying 2 LHD? Why this form of 'light aircraft carrier' that would only be able to carry jump jets? Wouldn't it have made more sense to buy at least one real aircraft carrier instead of relying on the goodwill of the west? The carrier would be no less vulnerable to enemy navies, but would bring more skills than the LHD - we could launch fighter planes from there - and helicopters - and drones?

"The final contract for the construction of the ship was signed with the Navantia-Sedef consortium on 7 May 2015. The commissioning of the ship is scheduled for 2021, and the estimated cost of the ship according to the final specifications is $1 billion"

Further:

"According to the original plan, the Turkish Navy wanted a slightly shorter flight deck without the ski-jump ramp in front, to be optimized for use with only helicopters"

The Nimitz class costs on average 8B $, which makes a difference - but instead of 2 LHD for 2B $, wouldn't a real carrier have made more sense? If we have the know-how at all -
in any case, many countries have carriers, it doesn't have to be a big US carrier...
For example - the Italian Cavour Carrier ~ 1,4 B $

Just some questions - no hate pls

now compare ~ 1B$ LHD to ~ 1,4B$ full capable light AC

Why is that unrealistic? We already have a military base since decades why not a Airbase too?
It's not even clear that TuAF will purchase armed Hürjet, and that TAI will develop a naval version of it.

Sorry for my words, but instead of building a fucked 2nd LHD, or shortening the launchpad for tons of money (that fucks me up the most...why do you take the CATOBAR capability by costly shortening the launch pad - from a warship, which in its original form can also be a light AC,?! wtf ?!), a light AC would have been much better for our needs - since we already have landing vessels and options ... and since we have no other options (our f16 rather unsuitable for AC starts) a config. hürjet would be optimal and would really be a weight in our favor since we can bring a floating air force base to any location and the air force is the backbone of any war. I think KKTC and air force would be one more reason for the West to go to war ...

TCG Trakya will only constructed when there is a demand for it, that was revealed by Ismail Demir in a recent interview.
Turkey does not need a aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean to protect it's interests.

I think an aircraft carrier is still better than an LHD, even if you ignore this point and ignore the conversion (shortening of the ramp) ...
Why flying with air refueling, vulnerable, thousands of kilometers through the Mediterranean if an AC remedies... Every major power has AC - there is nothing to discuss

Mate did you see the video I posted about why a second generation Harriet was not developed ? We could do like US and get vstol engine from the russians.

Yes, I saw the video - how the Westies stole technology again - why don't we do it? Is it not possible for us to copy and improve existing technologies? Like the USA with the Russian prototype and the F35?
but still - since we won't get any vertical starters on the fast and this development would be even more complex than that of normal engines, a light AC would be the best alternative ... and not even more expensive, since we already have the basic module

The important questions are not answered in the article:

Does the increase in combat value of the block 30 have an impact on the classification?
Increase to block 40? 50?
What changes have been made to the body, besides the reinforcement of the 'armor'?
come on, when you buy model 2000 audi, it will stay 2000 audi forever, no matter what you change on it. so you cant change a block of f16 with adding something.

with some extras f16 B30 can be upgrade the level of f16 B50+, when Aselsan AESA radar ready we will talk about it. may be this upgrade covers new mission computer too but they didnt say anything about it.

b30 bodies is lighter than newer variants so basically much appropriate dog fight fighter.

that's why I ask:

the article talks about improvements to the body ...
and there is also room for improvement in avionics - so why no upgrade?

of course - this thing wouldn't become a block70, but it will also no longer be block30

I think it was just a structural upgrade/maintenance to increase the lifetime of the airframe. I don't think the aircraft are upgraded in terms of capabilities. Thus, they stay as Block 30.
