Yeah, what's funny is if it wasn't for Ataturk pushing off the invading armies there would be no kurds or any muslims in todays Turkey. It would all be settled by Greeks + Armenians + Italians + French + British + Russians and others.

We might not even have had muslims at all in ME today if it wasn't for Ataturk, they the invaders would just go and do what they want in the ME.

Ataturk accomplished the impossible, all the super powers of world war 1 was fighting against us. It wouldn't be too much to call it a miracle.

Ataturk was truly a genius I've been to his moseleum and looked at his books on display there on the library, and it's crazy.

He was studying, biology, medicine, law.. you name it... what's so special about that?
Each subject was in a different language!

Sure that can be done today, but to do that + fight wars at the same time takes hard work.

It's easier to do today with the internet and ease of getting information. It was much more difficult to learn basic language 100 years ago and on top of it read advanced medicine in a language and biology / law in another lanugae.

I truly respect Ataturks intelligence and commitment.

Ataturk is a very difficult subject. Ataturk the phenomenon would not have happened if not for the decay ottoman turks were facing. Ottomans were heavily indebted, reforms were already heading towards secularism so Ataturk wasn't really a harbinger of new thought and finally deviation in "Islam" how can one be a caliph and yet follow a suffi order so ardently. Previous caliphs were more knowledgeable as well as spoke multiple languages.

So all in all it was time for them to go I can only imagine if they had found oil and other commodities they might have survived but it was not supposed to be, nothing is a coincidence!

That being said Ataturk did the utmost disservice to turks as well. He threw turks from the fore to the back waters. Instead of uniting muslims he used Turk nationalism. The turkisation of language and alphabet wasn't actually that nor the change in clothes it was an inferiority complex. He forgot he was representing a nation that was still to a degree in the middle of everything and a former superpower. The change of alphabet incidentally took away the history art and culture from the next generations. I doubt modern turkey can ever grasp what it has lost.

Kemalism and his secularism has lost! It is not islamists or AKP! The state protected secularism militantly, courts upheld it bureaucracy maintained it but it lost just like communism. What you have in AKP is a semblance of what Turks aspire and when they talk neo ottomanism they reminisce their glorious past. While Turks may idealise Ataturk they no longer want his ideology. Ataturk freed turks and that is what he was, a general who knew how to fight. Gallipoli is an excellent example of his inspirational leadership.

Turkey has seen what Europe is all about and they don't want it.
