Turkey will protect its aid ships for Gaza: PM

Turkey's naval forces would escort Turkey's humanitarian aid ships bound for the Gaza Strip, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, the Anatolia news agency reported late Thursday.

"We have humanitarian aid to be sent there. And our humanitarian aid will not be attacked anymore like it happened to Mavi Marmara," he told the Al Jazeera TV channel, referring to a deadly Israeli raid on a flotilla heading to the Hamas-run Palestinian territory in May 2010.

Israeli commandos boarded the ship Mavi Marmara, which aimed to break Israel's naval blockade of Gaza, and killed nine Turks in international waters, causing a diplomatic row between the two countries.

Ankara last week expelled the Israeli ambassador and suspended all military agreements and industrial defence ties with that country, in retaliation for Israel's refusal to apologize for the raid.

Turkey also said it will take any necessary measures to ensure the safety of shipping in the eastern Mediterranean.

It seems Turkey is not going to let it go quietly. Turkey knows that the US cannot afford to alienate Turkey when the prospect of a conflict with Pakistan and China grows stronger as days pass. If israel tries to challenge Turkey all alone, it will be a field day for Turkey not on the military front but also on the diplomatic front.

This thread can be closed. Turkey will not send any ships because it is a NATO member and it will not military attack Israel if it wants to stay in the alliance (and even Arduan is not that crazy).

I hope for the Turkish Navy not to cross the Israeli military, Israel's navy will make a pig's breakfast out of the Turkish ships.

the Turkish current government is very strong in talking but very feeble in actions, Israel has nothing to worry about. Talking is cheap and Turkey is just a paper tiger.
