Turkey wants to tie-up with Pakistan to make fighter jets, missiles & access Chinese tech

4 minutes

Ankara: Turkey is pushing to co-manufacture warplanes and missiles with Pakistan, a hookup that could also give it access to prized war technology from China.
Turkish defense and government officials have held periodic talks with Pakistani counterparts — the last high-level discussion was in January — about developing and manufacturing military hardware with Pakistan, according to people from both countries who are familiar with the negotiations. The people didn’t say when they’ll meet again or how close they are to an agreement.
A deal would get NATO-member Turkey closer to some of China’s military technology. Pakistan builds its JF-17 fighter jets with China and is said to have adapted Chinese designs for its Shaheen ballistic missile.
Turkey sees nuclear power Pakistan as a strategic ally and potential partner in building its Siper long-range missile-defense project and TF-X fighter jet, the people familiar said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss strategic goals. The people didn’t say whether the talks have gotten to the point of seeking Beijing’s consent to share Chinese defense technology. China’s Foreign Ministry didn’t respond to requests for comment on the issue.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has hailed “very serious potential” for collaboration with Pakistan on defense projects, and top defense officials have met in recent months. Pakistani Defense Secretary Mian Muhammad Hilal Hussain met with top Turkish officials including Defense Minister Hulusi Akar in December, and discussed defense industry cooperation, the people familiar said. Akar has also met with Pakistan’s defense minister, military chief and air force chief, and accompanied Erdogan on a visit to Pakistan over the past year.
The countries already have some cooperation in the defense industry, including co-producing warships Turkey has sold Pakistan.
Turkish adoption of Chinese military technology could cause new frictions with the U.S., which would be loath to see Ankara move further away from the western military alliance. Washington is already sanctioning Turkey for buying a missile-defense system from Russia, and has suspended Turkish companies from participating in the development of Lockheed Martin Corp.’s F-35 stealth fighter jet.
The Turkish officials who spoke on the contacts with Pakistan said the outreach meshes with Ankara’s aspiration to become a power center in an increasingly multipolar world.
Turkey signed the S-400 deal with Russia two years after it scrapped plans to buy a Chinese missile defense system, under pressure from the U.S. Ankara is now negotiating a potential purchase of a second S-400 system, and a co-production deal with Moscow.

Why news media is in crisis & How you can fix it

India needs free, fair, non-hyphenated and questioning journalism even more as it faces multiple crises.

But the news media is in a crisis of its own. There have been brutal layoffs and pay-cuts. The best of journalism is shrinking, yielding to crude prime-time spectacle.

I don't want to say anything about this news or give my analysis and how accurate this information from Indian media outlets. I would only say Pakistan in the right direction and Pakistan Zindabad.

This article is a copy of a Bloomberg article which is wholly uninformed. Please explain to me these few things:

Why does Turkey need to go through Pak to get access to Chinese tech? More importantly, what tech does Turkey need from China besides ballistic missile stuff?

Turkey literally produces derivatives of Chinese weapons domestically, from the Weishi rockets to literal Ballistic missiles, what makes them need Pakistan to approach China. China has always offered them access to high-tech gear, whether it be the HQ-9 or modern rocketry stuff.

U don't know if it's true or not but China pakistan and turkey can do great things together. Time to design weapons with other countries. India is doing same and working on many projects. Time for pakistan to help itself and others.

My only thought on the matter is that this relationship can act as a conduit of Western tech going to China and the results of the improvements being shared between the three countries. Such a union could be a win win for every one.

Ah, thank you for valuing me so much. I have a sincere suggestion. I heard that SAC is short of a lot of money now. Pakistan and Turkey can consider investing in SAC. so you guys could get the J-31.

As for Turkey's "Western technology". We don't discuss this. OK?

SAC is trying its best to sell the J-31 project to the PLA, which aims to be a low-cost general-purpose version of the PLA's 5th generation fighter aircraft, like the US's F-35. At this time they will not respond to the demands of other countries.

However, I heard that the first prototype of the J31 is completely different from the second prototype. It is possible that the first prototype could become a foreign trade product at a lower cost and could be manufactured in another country.
