Featured Turkey transports S-400 air defense system for Black Sea tests

ANKARA, Turkey — The Turkish military transported Oct. 5-6 its first batch of the Russian-made S-400 to the Black Sea port of Sinop, where the country plans to test the long-range air defense system’s capabilities, a Turkish military source confirmed to Defense News.
The S-400 will be tested at the Sinop test field, and the city’s civil aviation authorities have banned all flights between Sinop and Unyem, east of the test field, at an altitude of less than 25,000 feet.
Officials reported the S-400 will be fired eastward during the tests.
The batteries were transported to Sinop on eight-wheel drive military trucks. Military officials said a batch of 10 U.K.-made Banshee target drones were also transported to Sinop for the tests.
Turkey first tested the S-400 air defense system on American-made F-16 fighter jets in November. The first batch of the system was delivered to Ankara in July 2019. Turkey and Russia are currently negotiating the purchase of a second batch based on co-production or off-the-shelf purchase with technology transfer.

Turkey agreed to the $2.5 billion S-400 acquisition at the end of 2017. It said it would activate the system in April 2020.
Under pressure from its NATO allies, most notably the United States, Turkey silently postponed the activation process, citing the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since the S-400 purchase, Washington has suspended Turkish partnership in the American-led, multinational Joint Strike Fighter program that builds the F-35 fighter jet. The U.S. also threatened to sanction Turkey if it activated the air defense system.

“When to activate … such a critical air defense system … that is a matter not to be disclosed to the public," said Ismail Demir, Turkey’s chief defense procurement official. “How much of the system has been activated? Such questions do not comply with a country’s geo-strategic deliberations.”

Thanks to S-400, the Turkish engineers now have an understanding of the Russian way of solving the long range radar and AD missile problems. They have had an access to S-300 radar systems, which helped them to develop KORAL EW/A system. And, KORAL in turn does the background job for the spectacular "YouTube videos" from the Turkish UAVs destroying armored, AD, missile/rocket launchers etc. at will. S-400 immensely helps Turkey to develop their indigenous THAAD type all-inclusive and combo AD umbrella solution....

Let be honnest . after dealing with buk and S-300 we learned there is beter way to deal with that problem rather than russia brute force approach. Thats why our 3rd of khordid have thrice the range of russian Buk-M2 while have less power output.

I think in the future Russia and Turkey relations are crucial, putting aside their differences in Syria, Libya if they can become a formidable force against Western imperialism. In fact they can with China dominate central Asia and much more.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Monday the construction of a new Turkish military base has been completed in Qatar and it will be named after the famous Muslim commander Khalid bin Walid.
Erdogan arrived in Doha earlier in the day to attend the fifth meeting of the Turkey-Qatar High Strategic Committee.
He spoke to troops at the Turkish base where about 5,000 soldiers have been stationed since a Saudi Arabia-led blockade started more than two years ago. The visit came as local media reported Qatar intends to buy 100 Turkish tanks.
“It [Turkey-Qatar Combined Joint Force Command] serves stability and peace of not only Qatar but also the Gulf region,” Erdogan said after meeting troops at the newly finished base.
The command centre was named after Khalid bin Walid – one of the Islamic world’s greatest generals who commanded armies of the Prophet Muhammad in the seventh century. He was so adept in battle, the Prophet Muhammad gave him the name the “Unsheathed Sword of Allah”.

Erdogan dubbed the military base “the symbol of brotherhood, friendship, solidarity and sincerity”.
“We have never left our friends alone in any period of history against threats and risks – and we never will,” said Erdogan.
In June 2017, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt launched a land, air, and sea blockade against Qatar, saying Doha was not adhering to their regional policies. Saudi Arabia closed the border with its neighbour – Qatar’s only land border.
Qatar has denied the accusations of the blockading nations, saying it chooses to follow an independent foreign policy.

A joint communique published by the official Qatar News Agency after the meetings, “stressed the importance of the unity of the Gulf Cooperation Council, especially in light of the challenges surrounding the region and … mutual respect and full sovereignty of states and non-interference in their internal affairs”.
“Constructive dialogue is the only way to end the current Gulf crisis,” it added.
Al Jazeera’s Osama Bin Javaid said President Erdogan and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani discussed bilateral ties as well as international issues during their meetings.
“We’ve been told matters pertaining to finance, urbanisation, standardisation as well as bilateral trade came under discussion,” he said from Doha.
Erdogan departed from Qatar following the discussions on Monday.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told Al Jazeera that Ankara and Doha have a deep understanding of each other’s concerns, but there was room for improvement.
“We signed eight agreements, or MOUs, to strengthen the legal basis of our relations,” Cavusoglu said.
“We have also been discussing regional issues where Turkey and Qatar have the same position,” he continued, adding the two countries share “excellent cooperation” in areas such as the war in Syria, the Gulf region, and “even beyond”.

They will be able to maintain a presence by using Qatar as a base but they won't be able to rule Arabian sea as there are already so many decent naval powers in the region who have an logistic advantage of operating in their own backyard, Iran, Pakistan, USN for example.....

Turkey is a powerful naval force but it's in Mediterranean beyond that they won't be able to rule..... India is a decent naval force but in Arabian sea and Indian Ocean region..... they can't rule in Mediterranean against Turkey..... simple and plain facts.....

Iran is a not a major power like Turkiye. Turkiye manufactures all the equipment locally while India imports. India is importing ships from Turkiye.
