Relationship is sort of love hate relationship. From 1947 to 1971 majority of prime minister of Pakistan was from East Pakistan. Sheikh Mujib was supposed to be the prime minister not Pakistan because he was elected by the vote of Pakistani citizens. But he was deprived by Bhutto and military regime of Pakistan.

2 separate term exists because Bangladesh liberated itself from the Pakistani occupational force. I guess you also do not know the meaning of the Bangladesh, it means the country of the Bengalis. Till 1971 it was Bengali muslim as the country created for them but after 1971 it became exclusively Bangladeshi muslim. However if still anyone use the term Bengali muslim it only refer to Bangladeshi muslim not any leftover in India.

Bangladesh means country of the Bengalis.
