When I was younger I didn't understand the importance of this man. I thought he was an enemy if Islam.
But now, I actually see him as making changes in Turkey that have allowed it to be a bastion of Islam in Europe.
His modernization of the country has allowed it to be one of the, if not the most advanced Muslim country in the world. And with that development comes real power to protect its people.
Exactly THIS. Many Muslims complain about western dominion over their countries but when people like Ataturk rise up to bring the country forward, they get stopped. Atatürk's success had a few reasons, first the Turkish way of Islam is much more relaxed and spiritual, secondly, most reforms were in fact started during the 17th century by various ottoman diplomats and even Sultans (some of them got killed for it). Mahmud II was even called "Gavur Padişah" (infidel Sultan) simply because he changed the dress code and made Fez compulsory for certain people to wear.
After the successful independence war, some Indian Muslims even offered Ataturk to be the new Sultan or Caliph. I hear so many BS claims about Ataturk by other Muslims now it's quite sad actually.
Some religious people will literally praise an ineffective Sultan just because he is religious but hates highly successful people like Ataturk because of their religious views. This is why Muslims fail. The Europeans were also stubborn like this when religion controlled all their lives and you know what happened during that time? Turks nearly conquered half of Europe.
