Turkish firm Otokar has completed the development of a new battle tank called Altay with assistance from South Korea.

A top company official was quoted as saying by Yonhap that the firm plans to begin mass production within the next 18 to 22 months.

The Altay main battle tank (MBT) project started in 2008 with Turkey signing a contract with Hyundai Rotem Co., a subsidiary of the Hyundai Group and the manufacturer of the K2 Black Panther battle tank, for technology transfer.

Turkey intends to build 250 Altay MBTs initially, and ultimately produce 1,000 new tanks in four separate lots of 250 units.

Not really, it's too, an overrated tank, altho it has some nice features other western tanks don't

Won't happen, Turkish Land Forces loves it's redundant systems. Altay main gun can still be operated even after full power failure with it's Carl Zeiss backup 8x auxiliary telescope.

I think Armata has changed the rules of the game.

We have used M-60T Sabra and M-60A3 TTS as armored support when cleaning out houses in Diyarbakir. In fact, manned turret and one additional personnel is quite useful, specially on cases like that where urban warfare is evolving itself into a new form with conventional military grade modern guidance systems on the hands of terrorists, homes are not just shelters anymore as well. They are used as weapons now. The additional loader fills the gap perfectly on cases like this where you have to crush buildings with armor among with commando/police. They are able to conduct the roles of other crewman. But also by doing so, the crewman he replaces is able to perform support roles to fighting personnel nearby the tank,...etc. Manned turret was in the need of modern conventional wars. But here in ME, Israel and Turkey have made the perfect decision.

So the idea with "should" doesn't make a bit of a sense.

It will come with first Altay, but in 2015, Aselsan said that it will be ready in 2017 they had already done fire demonstrations.. what i believe they want to do is to make it against tank rounds too..
