Turkey: Closer to Dictatorship or Democracy?

Have anyone noticed Turks here are hardly talking about Erdogan these days? I remember how many Erdogan bashing post there was back 3 years ago lol.

I think I know why. :)
We do but we do it in our native language, in fact there is political massage i almost every thread in Turkish section.

I really couldn't care less. I want this discussion concluded by the summer so that country can focus on things that really matter: education/ infrastructure/ military projects and formulation of a proper foreign relations strategy

If Turkey is a dictatorship then so is USA

. .
''If North Korea is a dictatorship then so is USA.''

How to claim the opposite?
Simple North Koreans didnt elect Kim bit Turks did elect Erdogan if some of his actions appear to be of a totalitarian regime than people will have a choice again same with Trump

What makes the difference between North Korea and USA is only the elections, isn't it?

Lying is the forte of secularists and kemalist. I am a Muslim not a intellectually colonized secularist. SO NO you may NOT call me a liar.

Buddy, he is a Turk and lives there. He has a better idea of what is happening in ground reality than any of us here. You are thinking from religious angles, something that Turks generally don't do. To them, religion is one of the parts of life. While personally I admire the ferocity and determination with which Erdogan has taken power in his country, the man is simply going out of control.

You speak of Kemalists as if they are some sort of lunatics. It was Mustafa Kemal Ataturk's ideals that made Turkey into a serious, responsible and model state for rest of Middle East. Had he espoused the theocratic micro-view for everything related to the nation, they would have become like Yemen today.

From the ruins of a theocratic empire to a modern, respected powerful nation state. And as for 'intellectually colonised', you do know that Turkish military kicked the western powers out simultaneously and single-handedly and beat them into submission, right?

Ataturk spoke from the position of an equal; Neither had inferiority complex nor superiority complex. He is one such 'dictator' that laid the foundations of one of the most sophisticated and admirable democratic structures in Asia. I would go to the extent of saying even better than my country's.

If there is anything, Erdogan is getting out of hand and destroying this institutional system which is one of the finest forms of democracies. It will only hurt Turks in the long term. And we can for the sake of this debate forget Erdogan's religious views and simply see the single-handed damage he is doing to one of the most stable countries of Asia.

What makes the difference between North Korea and USA is only the elections, isn't it?

You're kind of right.

Elections put them apart. The state unabashedly controls people in North Korea while in US this control is in the hands of corporates and businessmen.
