Turkey changes country's name to Turkiye

So if tomorrow Iran decides follow on the same model & chooses to change its name (officially) from Iran to Persia, would you have the same thought?

We 80 years officially asked every one to call us by the correct name of the country which is Iran instead of the wrong Persia one which we never used and everyone since then call us with correct name.

Frankly, it doesn't matter to me. I don't have enough inferiority complex to attack your country with your style. If anyone wants, ofc can continue to say Turkey (which is completely wrong as pronounce) And also, anyone who wishes can ignore even Turkish and look at Italian, Spanish, French or even Persian for how they calling Turkish state.

Dude, the fact that you think if someone uses Turkey they mean to insult you is like the strongest indication of inferiority complex itself. I myself have never used Turkey as a way to insult the country. That's really childish. If I really want to insult Turkey (and I have no reason to do it), there are much better options for insulting than a purely coincidental spelling.

Do you know that Portugal and orange are called the same in Persian? We call both "Porteghal". Does it mean we intend to insult them?

I can think of many nouns that end to -ey (money, honey, blimey, etc.) in English and I can not think of even one noun in English that ends to -iye. The acceptance of your suggested spelling depends on English speakers. It's not something that Erdogan issues an executive order and then it becomes effective and catches on from tomorrow. Turkia may have a better chance of making it into the English language, but we'll see how widely this new spelling will be used in future.

It's okay to use the English spelling. There is no problem for me, as member of this state... Maybe, but here I can give you the same example from at least 30 languages from the Adriatic to central Asia. I just found out, it's also used as 'hindi' in German. It's a really interesting topic.

We use Yunan to refer to Greece even though Ionia wasn't a major part of the Hellenic culture. We use Lehestan to refer to Poland because of Lechia, even though Poles do not want to be called that. We use Alman to refer to Germany and I'm sure Germans don't approve that either. We call both orange and Portugal as "porteghal" in our language. It's just a cultural thing. We don't do it to insult the Portuguese people.

In case of Germany well I bet no one in Iran knew about Alamani, we call it from french Allemangn and well they probably object to it as much they object to Germany as they themselves call the country Deutschland.

I can't remember the last time I used either of those names. And I didn't know that they were the same until now that you mentioned it.

China changed Peking to Beijing. We still use the French pronunciation of Peking in our language. Again, it depends on how far and widely it gets accepted by the native speakers of the target language. In this case, native English speakers.
