And a good thing they haven't, because the 'issues' that get the conservative base mobilized (for a long time until Obamacare came along) were the epitome of 'deplorable' - 'conserve American values' by denying rights to LGBTQ, women, immigrants, the middle class etc.

Now I'm not here to debate the ifs and buts. Fact is American politics are becoming radicalized from both ends of the political spectrum whether anyone likes it or not.

Yes it's becoming radicalized - because there is no middle ground to take against the racist, misogynistic and homophobic right that has taken over the Republican party. Traditional middle-ground conservatives started being kicked out during the Republican primary process by the Tea-Party during Obama's first term. Just listen to the poisonous vitriol directed by Right wing media at any Republican/conservative that even things about compromising with the democrats on anything. This radicalization in US politics is primarily the responsibility of the American Right.
